I accidentally put this code (MUWA130) into the AWD field and of course I got "invalid". I put it in the coupon code field and I got no error messages. Is it possible you treated it like an AWD instead of a coupon code?

nmenaker Mar 19, 2010 7:40 am

yes, if I put it into coupon it doesn't fail. But, it also doesn't show any discount. It says that it "will be calculated at time of rental" but not sure if that would ever happen. Does anyone know what this one is for? I would rather not use something, not knowing what it is, not having any discount SHOWN on the rental reservation and then trying to substantiate it at the counter or worse

All Avis coupons are calculated when you return the car. It works fine. As for coupon codes, go to the source as there are better offers out there than what you just posted:

A972200 reduces most LAX rentals by 50%

nmenaker Mar 21, 2010 10:04 am

roppongi, just tried that code for an LAX rental, didn't move the needle on any car types for me? What is it anyways?

Wow, NICE! This reduced my OAK quotes by OVER 50% (Renting for 1 day on April 21), for all classes Full Size or lower.

Edit - As a note, this includes 125 miles only (which is enough for my 7 hour rental)

And look how crazy this is...

Base Rate: 0 day(s) , 7 hour(s) 33.00 USD
Taxes & Surcharges: 21.70 USD
Surcharge
17.83 USD

$0.47 per day (Energy Recovery Fee)
$2.23 per day (Vehicle License Fee)
3.50% (Tourism Assessment Fee)
$10.0 per rental (Rental Customer Facility Charge)
11.11% (Concession Recovery Fee)
Tax (9.750 %) 3.87 USD
Mileage: 125 Miles Included
ADDITIONAL MILEAGE CHARGE: 0.25 USD per Mile

Approximate Total 54.70 USD

So its $33 for the rental, and $21.70 in taxes and fees/charges. What garbage lol

Why is "vehicle license fee" different based on awd code?

Who is saying that A972200 "reduces most LAX rentals by 50%" ???

I'm looking at 3.5 day rental (Sat 3pm - Tues 9 pm) LAX (full-size impala) and with no code the base rate is $152, with taxes the total is $202. (I'm using Country residency = Canada, not USA).

With code A972200 the base rate is $132, but after taxes the total is $189.

The difference is that with the code, I'm charged:

- $0.53 per day (Energy Recovery Fee)
- $2.23 per day (Vehicle License Fee)

Without the code, I'm not charged at all for the "energy recovery fee", and the per-day vehicle license fee is $0.26 per day.

Can anyone explain why the these taxes or fees are different based on using this code vs no code?

Even code k444404 brings the base down to only $137, and the total to $183 (.26 vehicle license, no energy recovery fee).

I'm fairly certain not even Avis knows what all their codes are or what all their codes do.

Looking at that code, i don't see why the rates are so different. Did you try to apply a different one?

saltydog Mar 31, 2010 10:24 am

Just an FYI- code a113400 has been a great rate for Wash. Dulles and DCA over the past few months for me. But I tried using in on Orlando and they refused it. It is a FLA state worker code and I guess in FLA they will card you.

But in the DC area it drops daily rates to less than $40 a day, sometimes less then $30.

has anyone used this code before, or recently? Wondering what the confirmation is? I WAS a USAA customer up till about five years ago, but now use Nationwide. Still a customer TECHNICALLY.

Lemme know please, works for an upcoming rental.
