Looks like based on anecdotal evidence, those of you on corporate rates may want to stick to the airports for rentals.

Confirmed in Denver if you rent when picking up keys from desk, they will ask and require Some form of id, otherwise they will change rate to the best they can offer, Which is significantly higher, but lower than what you may find online from there website.
Also, if you present an id, be prepared for them to take a picture of it. however, if you are a preferred member and your name is on the digital board, they did not ask for id when departing and returning vehicle. I guess bring a business card or send an email to yourself just in case. |

Sentence should be reworded as "those of you on corporate rates you are not eligible for may want to stick to the airports for rentals."

Yes, Avis has begun checking employment eligibility. I was asked to provide eligibility at 4 different locations last month. One agent shared that a company audited Avis and found that up to 40% of rentals under that company's discount were used fictitiously. All agents that I spoke to shared that Avis is stepping up and requiring verification.

I wonder if they're only checking certain AWDs? I wasn't asked at a recent rental a couple weeks ago.

Data Point - Rented from Spokane (GEG) last month. No Preferred board so I had to stop at the desk to get the keys. I was indeed asked for some kind of proof. Thanks to this thread for pointing out the message, I was prepared. I showed a business card and that was acceptable.

If they ask for verification and it's not correct, and if they try to jack the rate...I have a backup car rental res at Enterprise for $7 more for the entire rental.
They won't get my future business AT ALL if they're rude or impolite about it. |
I am renting in a couple of weeks. I don't like to travel with my corporate ID, but my insurance card has my company logo on it. I am hoping it is sufficient (it has been sufficient at other places like museums and airport retailers); however, if it is not, I have two backup reservations at Payless and Alamo.

AWD Check with Avis Preferred?
Has anyone been asked for a corporate ID when going straight to the car and showing your driver's license at the gate?

Did they photograph (or otherwise document) the business card?
It should be noticed that the company does not issue standard business cards to employees, but we are encouraged to make our own or order through a third party, such as VistaPrint. |

No, the agent glanced at it quickly and was satisfied.

"Uh, here's my card. I'm with...." looks at card "...the company that's on that card..." David A couple weeks ago I was not asked for corp ID at MCI. Picked my car using the app, name was on the board at the rental car center, and no one ever asked. Had some business cards in my bag if asked. |
I just made rentals for a trip later this month and decided to stick with airport locations instead of downtown. Might be a few bucks more but the cars will likely be nicer and I won't have to deal with this nonsense.
Meanwhile my next trip is to ABQ and I doubt there is a board there. So that will be interesting. If they accept the ID I bring with me, I may reevaluate my next rentals. -J. |
Was asked for corporate ID at suburban location. Showed corporate ID but a lot of companies now don't have company name on the badge like mine. Agent didn't push back but waiting for that day to happen. I don't have work e-mail hooked to my mobile where agent can send me an e-mail to my work address and I can show him on the device that it came to me. Tthey are really tight with security and only support Apple devices for work e-mail so I am like if they need me to look at e-mail on my mobile phone then they can buy me an iPhone. Also 21st century work seems to have migrated from e-mail to mainly chat apps like slack, teams, etc which i do have enabled on my personal mobile but Lord knows what I would show the Avis agent on slack to provide I really work for company XXXX.

Presumably if your employer provides an AWD for you to use for company business (or otherwise) then they should also be able to provide sufficient ID to prove entitlement to use the AWD.
The obvious inference is that no ID means no entitlement. |
