Chiming in with two data points. No audit in Pittsburgh (picked up key at counter by showing DL only) or Cleveland (name on board, DL only checked at exit gate).

Data point. 2 Avis rentals in Canada and both did not require presenting company ID.

After an exhaustive search through past Avis rentals saved online, I could only find the AWD number. Under My Account on the Avis app, I found the company name to AWD# association.

Happy travels folks, feels great to be back above the clouds.

Got that for an upcoming rental, booked under my company's "Leisure" AWD - same rate as the corporate travel one, just one digit's difference in the AWD code. I'll at the vey least have my work cell # on me so not worried about producing "proof" I work there. A little surprised they didn't start stepping up checks earlier, given how extreme the shortage was in the spring/winter and how much of a delta there was between prevailing rates and some of the corporate rates that are good for walk-up.

2 Recent data points. Both Denver and Seattle did NOT require ID or proof. Just my name on board and texted me the spot where the car was located. Same AWD I have used for 15+ years

I am flying into Seattle this September. Did you do online check in with vehicle reservation (pre-paid), for your name to be on the board?

I am Avis Preferred so my name was on the board and don't have to go to any desk most of the time

Data Point - Rented from Spokane (GEG) last month. No Preferred board so I had to stop at the desk to get the keys. I was indeed asked for some kind of proof. Thanks to this thread for pointing out the message, I was prepared. I showed a business card and that was acceptable.

Any datapoints on SNA checking ID for AWD codes?

Lomapaseo Aug 19, 2021 11:06 am

Data point

I was at a Florida off-airport property mid-august and they asked for for proof. I didn't have my business cards with me but was able to offer proof via a photo on my phone. They declined to accept that on the basis it was not an original. hard copy and good be faked.

Eventually they let it go this one time

Now I had a reservation booked through Avis.com. I had a confirmation but I had not really looked at it. The confirmation was shown with US in it as I suspect that the site had defaulted to the Residency US. The email did indeed contain the warning about the rate that I was using. On a whim I went and booked the exact same on the French site and my confirmation at exactly the same rate showed no such warning. I had not seen this warning ever before. I do not know if this is of help.

I have an Avis rental for DTW in a couple of weeks, but honestly have no idea what AWD is sitting there. Could be a previous job. Oh, well. If they ask for verification and it's not correct, and if they try to jack the rate...I have a backup car rental res at Enterprise for $7 more for the entire rental.

They won't get my future business AT ALL if they're rude or impolite about it.

Auto Enthusiast Aug 24, 2021 5:05 pm

Why not pay $7 more for a public retail rate, get peace of mind, and National rental credits?

Was asked for corporate ID at a local station today. Wasn’t ask 6 weeks ago same station same AWD.

Looks like based on anecdotal evidence, those of you on corporate rates may want to stick to the airports for rentals.
