Large Estate?

Anyone had any experiences renting a large estate recently? A Passat is what's shown on the avis.co.uk site, any other cars in that group? Tnx!

I had pre-booked a medium: compact at LGW, today picked up a BMW 2.0 118D MSport. My contract show it as a group E. Lovely car!

Sorry not to have been around more, but I'm in a new position with much less travel (sobs) and even less time to spend of FT (more sobs). Perhaps this thread should be archived and a more active FT'er could launch a new one they can edit more frequently?

I don't mind doing it, but the mods need to be contacted I guess...

I booked a Standard (Volkswagen Passat or similar) through capital one for a good rate ($170, 4 days from LHR). I was trying to compare it to a Ford Mondeo, another good rate I got through Enterprise.co.uk. My preliminary research shows the Passaat would be larger than Mondeo. I don't know much about UK cars, can anybody please confirm?

A Passat and a Mondeo are fairly comparable in terms of volume, both are quite large and should seat 5 adults pretty comfortably with their luggage.

Does anyone know what the Italian fleet, specifically at BGY (Bergamo or "Milan" as Ryanair call it) is like? Group D lists a Megane, so I assume Focus, Fiat Bravo, Alfa Guilletta would all be reasonably likely?

Sounds about right, although you may find the Guilletta in a higher class.

OT but to continue the Italian theme, does anyone know what cars are in the luxury executive class? Example in BMW 318d but what else could it be? Renting from Venice.

Chairman renting in October at LHR. Company Policy states intermediate. I have heard that Chairman doesn't mean much out of the US. Is that still true? Are there ways for shake an upgrade free? Does a call from the Chairman's desk help at all?

Anyone get a midsize Intermediate at LHR recently? I drive an automatic here in the states, but certainly know how to drive a stick although doing it while driving on the "wrong" side of the road should prove interesting. In fact I own a Triumph TR-7.

Thanks

I get nice upgrades in the UK as President's Club, so you should be fine. In case you aren't aware, Avis has a special program if you are flying on BA to T5 where you don't have to take a bus to the Avis lot. Do a search here to see more.
