One Class Upgrade breakdown? (First)

With the free one car upgrade on Avis First, what is the break down on how that applies?

When I go to rent a car my selection order is the following:

Subcompact
Compact
Intermediate
Standard
Full Size
Specialty
Specialty
Premium
Intermediate SUV
Standard SUV
Luxury
Convertible
Standard SUV
Mini Van
Full Size SUV
Premium SUV
Passenger Van

If I select Standard I would get upgraded to Full Size, correct? But if I get a Full Size am I getting upgraded to a Specialty?

(all of this assuming the vehicles are available of course)

Thanks in advance!

If available (AND if they're willing to upgrade you), Full Size is technically one size up from a Standard.

One size up from Full Size is Premium. Avis considers a "Specialty" to be an upgrade from anything, though. I had this argument with them before when I reserved "Premium" because it was winter and I wanted ABS in Cleveland(the page for Premium lists ABS as a feature). I got a 300 without ABS and nothing "could be done." Their argument was two-fold: 1. I was upgraded (300 is a Specialty car, which is better than premium ) and 2. That page is just "typical options" even though the page doesn't say that.

Note that upgrades are "subject to availability" and the location is the sole determiner of availability. Just because they have a particular car class available to rent does not mean you can necessarily be upgraded to it.

I also got "upgraded" to a stripper 300 on a premium reservation and got the same story.

Thanks for the replies; I knew it was subject to availability and have been learning that availability means pretty much nothing.

I was just curious what the order of "ranking" was...
