NOTE: This thread has been superseded by the thread entitled LM F and J routes (and the occasional trick-it) Rebooted v2.0. Please follow the discussion there.
Region definitions
C1 North America
C1.5 Caribbean, Bermuda
C2 Europe
C2.5 Middle East
C3 Asia
C4 South America
C5 Africa
C6 Oceania
2X, 3X: in the context of this LifeMiles thread, 2X and 3X refer to any 2nd and 3rd legs of a one-way award ticket.
LifeMiles' Star Alliance Award Chart
Cash & Miles redemptions: buying the max (60%) isn't always the best deal (unless you're purchasing all miles right there). Check here for the best CPM.
Beware of Cabotage: LifeMiles has been known to issue tickets that constitute Cabotage, and at least one instance of denied boarding has been reported, stranding the passenger. An easily-seen example is travel on Copa from LAX to SJU (via PTY).

agree completely
this thread is amazingly consistent.
1. people discuss a few tricks. some have more details than others.
2. blogger posts something.
3. people here complain about bloggers. (there's another thread for this, might be better to discuss over there)
4. people here complain about other people here and the mods have to intervene.
4. new crop of posters start talking about 99% old stuff.
5. old people don't like the way the thread goes and leave but read it once in awhile.
6. wash, rinse and repeat.

Kinda on topic/off topic and I haven't checked in a while, but does LM still not allow mixed cabin award tickets?

Just booked my first successful LM C award to the fruity place to get me back home to Germany from PVG. Thanks to everyone who contributed on this thread!
Now the challenge is to get back to PVG...I'm aware of one C2-C2 that routes via PEK and two via ICN, but haven't seen anything via PVG. Does anybody know if such a route exists? Even if it's not C2-C2, but rather C2-C2.5 or sth like that...
Cheers, ranjid

But first, other members (you know who you are ;-) please shout if you think I'm giving away too much, I'm happy to edit. I believe your post, Ranjid is right on the border...
So, why do you think you have heard about PEK or INC but not PVG? Could there be a connection with the StarAlliance partner list?
Secondly, you might want to use http://routemap.staralliance.com/ to see potential connections. You would for instance immediately see that there is no direct connection from PVG to C2.5. Also none to Russia.
However, I hear that short flights in Asia can be bought(!) for relatively little money

PS: intra-China flights are not as cheap as you might think

If someone thinks that LM will guide you to every city on earth in J for 22,5 k miles, he should search for a different FFP. Almost always there must be a positioning flight

And isn't it nice that somebody still always searches for new routes? Gives us new options when old ones get shut down

Ladies & Gentlemen, der Kids,
as much fun as this banter may seem, it doesn't belong here. 13 OT posts deleted.

Is there a tricked way to get from C2 to ICN or Japan in J that doesn't require a Russian visa?

Even checking bags is no problem at all for this one.
