What about a cancellation/refund after a no-show? Is this a problem?

Only if none of the coupons was used and no OLCI was done.

Why that?? Is it not possible to check out and then do the cancellation, as usual?

He meant flight check in. You can cancel as usual.

So I can check in online (OLCI), then, when I realize that I wont make the flight I check out (OLCO) and then, a few days later I cancel the ticket and I get the refund. Right?

Ah. That I am not sure of. I wouldn't make such complicated exercises

I wouldn't like to risk that. I have cancelled over 30 tickets with LM and I will stress its not easy if things don't go as planned.

They do ask that you cancel before the flight so I don't know what will happen if you don't.

Is there such a thing as OLCO? I was under the impression that once you check in (or don't) in award travel, and if you miss the flight, you are a NO SHOW. So not sure how this will be treated by Lifemiles. Have to do some research.

What will happen to award/benefit tickets that have been issued and not used?
All reward tickets issued and not used will be honored as per the terms and conditions of those tickets and the programs they were issued through.

I've cancelled a LM partner (UA) redemption after departure time with no problems, but did so later the same day (about 10 hours after departure). I never checked in for the flight.

That depends on the airline. If OLCO (online check-out) is not provided, you can always call customer service and tell them to check you out. I do that sometimes with regular flexible cash tickets, but I don't know if it also works with a Lifemiles award ticket. But when I read the last comments, it should work...

I cancelled LM award tickets a few minutes before departure time, no issue, I am sure the cancellation process was completed after the plane took off

That happens quite often. They hardly ever bother cancelling them on the phone now days. I have had 3 in the past few months where they have not cancelled till after departure. Seems such a waste of a FF seat which someone else can utilize.
