We arrive in 1 week, and have been quarantining at home and are going to get tested before departure. Basically, I do not see a downside to getting tested, only upside. If one of us were to test positive, we will save ourselves a lot of aggravation (and money) by just staying home. Obviously, we could always pick it up along the way, but I feel better at least knowing I am starting out in the clear. Hopefully all goes well and we have a great vacation.

This may be a dumb question - were any vaccinations required for travelling to the Maldives? Researching the question, answers are all over the place. However, I am guessing by staying on the resort, we will have minimal exposure and would not need any prior to travelling. Thanks!

Email received from WA this morning:
Ministry of Tourism of Maldives has announced that all the guests arriving from 10th September 2020 will require a negative result for a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test for COVID-19. The test should have been done no more than three(3) days (72 hours) before arrival.

When I went in August. I flew EK so I got a test done but the 96 hours was tight it to get results. If you are supposed to fly on monday/Tuesday. It may be impossible to get results.

how does that even work ? Its a 20-30 hour flight from the US depending on flight times, connections etc. Even if you managed to get results in 48 hours, then another 24 hours for the flights. The results are no good.

On the conrad Maldives thread there is a quote from the tourism authority . The test has to be done 72 hours prior to departure for the Maldives (so possibly 100 hrs prior to arrival)
Sorry cannot copy the post at the moment

the problem is, i think they mean prior to the flight to the maldives, not prior to departure from country of origin. E.g. If I connect in Doha, the way it is worded, it's 72 hours prior to departure of doha flight, not NYC flight. Not to mention are they accounting for the time difference? Ugh what a mess

Since the tweet is quite ambiguous we have reconfirmed this query as well. This is applicable to country of origin. Meaning that the PCR test must be conducted within a maximum of 72 hours prior to departure from your country of origin, in this case the USA.

So now a negative test result is required when arriving in the Maldives. The result needs to be less than 72h "old" prior to the departure to the Maldives. This will apply for arrivals as of September 10.
They are also allowing again "split stays" but I just emailed the Ministry of Tourism and here is what they responded:
Not exactly a walk in the park
I wanted to stay 2-3 nights after my diving cruise trip but I guess it will be for next time.

Greetings from the Maldives!
Please be informed that as per the current guidelines split stay and as
well as relocation of tourists are not allowed in GENERAL circumstances.
However, under following conditions guests may split bookings. Tourists
may be allowed to travel between two resorts, provided that the
following conditions are fulfilled. The split stay guidelines have been
shared with the resorts and they are to comply with these accordingly.
1.The two resorts do not have reported cases of COVID-19 OR
2.COVID-19 cases exist on the resort however, these are small number of
imported isolated cases or cases which have occurred within a family or
a group of people staying together.
3.There should be no active cases of COVID-19 among the workers or staff
of the resorts. If a case has been reported in a staff, travel will be
permitted only if no further cases are detected among staff for 28 days
after the last case.
4.In a resort where a case of COVID-19 has been detected, HPA (Health
Protection Agency) will determine the status of the resort with regard
to safety of travel to and from the resort after doing the necessary
epidemiological investigations and after assessing the public health
measures taken on the resort (i.e. contact tracing has been completed,
patients isolated and contacts quarantined)
5.In the case of a resort which has been declared as having ongoing
transmission OR community spread of COVID-19, travel of tourists from
the resort to other resorts will be restricted until 28 days from the
time the last case was detected.
6.Tourists must undergo an exit screening prior to travel from the
resort. This is to ensure that a symptomatic person or a person in
quarantine does not exit the resort and travel. The exit screening
questionnaire should document any history of fever or respiratory
symptoms.
7.Tourists are not allowed to travel from a resort to a tourist vessels.
(and vice-versa)
Please note that the above procedures for split stay shall be carried
out BY THE RESORT, with the Ministry of Tourism. Provided all these
guidelines are complied with and the resort follows the procedures,
there shall be no issues in your transfer. It is required that the
resort submits all necessary documents 24-48 hours prior to your
transfer.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for further inquiries!
Thank you.

I'd advise being at the airport early with a copy of that email from the Maldivian tourism department - because if the airline have a different interpretation you might have a fight on your hands.

agree with this. Of course we can't find out what their interpretation is prior to arriving for check-in, since they all just say check the website.

Feeling confident enough to continue with our trip. Will take two PCR tests on a Saturday before 3:30 P.M, our first flight is SFO-ORD at 7:00 A.M on Tuesday, and then ORD-DOH at 4:30. One PCR test will be through specialist, currently returning results within a day. The other PCR test says results in 2-3 days.
Anybody know much about drones there? Seen some footage (specifically from TPG, but also from others), despite a "no-drone" policy in place. Do they care?
