It's the reverse. I first need to be added to Mrs. Majuki's household registration. I can then apply for a resident visa and collect an ARC after entering Taiwan on the resident visa.

I have used e-gates at TSA, TPE and KHH to enter with no problem. But I also do not pay attention to what generation they are.

They are just being pedantic and making sure she meets the requirements to enter Taiwan. If I have a simple roundtrip between Taiwan and China I have always needed to show my onward ticket out of Taiwan when I leave China. It could get sticky if one has a Mainland passport as well as, say, a US passport since that is technically not allowed by China. Then you need to tread carefully....

This is surprising. Never saw a hotel or merchant check on entry stamps. I have heard from a foreign resident of Taiwan that your passport number rejects if you try to buy something tax free.

Glad it worked for you! I renewed my passport last year and was unsure so asked the immigration hotline. Was told to go to a city immigration office to update my record which took all of 5 minutes with no charge. It may have already been updated since I entered through e-gate on the new passport. But the office was two blocks from the original Costco in Taichung so it made a good excuse to get a Costco hotdog for lunch.

I forgot to provide this update a week ago, but Mrs. Majuki and I flew back via TPE into Terminal 2. She was able to use the e-Gates without enrolling on her new Taiwanese passport. As a result, she didn't get an entry stamp or the stamp exemption endorsement.

I filled out the online arrival card. While I considered testing the new style e-Gates, I thought it might be prudent to have the entry stamp to show the household registration office. The employee took my passport and our paperwork out of sight to make photocopies at the office, so I don't know if the employee copied or referenced the entry stamp.

I did see signs for non-Taiwanese passports indicating that the e-Gates could be used by other select nationalities Australia, Germany, Italy, Korea, and the United States (for reciprocal applicants via e-Gate for Global Entry members) assuming enrollment. From a cursory glance, I couldn't see any signage that indicated that anybody beyond that had access to use the e-Gates. Since there was no wait for either the e-Gates or manual lanes, we opted to go through passport control immediately rather than inquiring from the e-Gate staff regarding eligibility.

My next anticipated entry will be on a resident visa, so I'll be able to enroll to use the e-Gates on an ARC beyond that. In retrospect, I should have saved myself the NT$3,000 in 2022, but I hadn't planned on applying for an ARC so soon.

I finally went through the process and got an ARC, so this post is relevant if anybody else is enrolled in one of the reciprocal programs and later obtains an ARC. The e-Gate website does mention that you will need to revisit an enrollment center upon obtaining an ARC, so that's what I did. Mrs. Majuki and I ventured over to the e-Gate enrollment desk at Terminal 2 at TPE where we had been in January 2023 to sort out my e-Gate for Global Entry renewal. The staff member there said that my passport was already enrolled, so I only had to enroll my ARC. The staff member scanned my ARC and affixed a sticker with the e-Gate logo on the front in the upper right corner. He told me that I could then use either my passport or ARC at the e-Gates. Upon exiting Taiwan, I confirmed with the staff that both documents could be used, which they did. For what it's worth, the animation on the screen at the e-Gate entrance shows the use of an ARC in lieu of a passport, but I used my passport to exit since I had it in hand.

Also, this was the first time I did not have to stand there at the check-in desk while the airline employee thumbed through my passport, looking for a non-existent entry stamp. (Ironically, for both this trip and the September trip, I had an entry stamp, and I had to go through the manual lanes when I entered this time anyway since I was entering on a resident visa.)

Many thanks for this! I am travelling to TPE soon with children and I was hesitating whether I should do this thing online in advance before the flight or on the plane (to pass time). The last thing I want to do is having to do it in an awkward manner online on some dodgy device just after a harrowing flight with family! Glad I did it in advance now.

in taiwan rn and trying to apply for this so i can use the egate when entering taiwan in the future. been running into issues, so got a few questions
1) can't log into the account via chrome on my computer. after login, the login page just refreshes. however, i can occasionally get in via chrome on my s9. is this a frequent issue?
2) i already submitted the application and paid the fee, how long does it take for them to review the application?
3) i have sentri, which comes with global entry. however, on my egate application, they ask what type of trusted traveler program i have. do i put sentri or global entry?
4) when i first submitted the application, i put sentri as my trusted traveler program, but then when i went back to check my application status the next day, there was a tab on the side that said "check and correct application information." when i clicked on it, the application section "trusted traveler program" was highlighted in red, with a section on the side that says "information from GOES system: 'SENTRI Highway (please see suggestions listed below),'" and the note on the bottom says "please confirm and select the correct trusted traveler program." i called them and they were confused also, but mentioned maybe i should probably change it to global entry. so i did, and today, when i logged into the check, my application is still pending, but the tab that said "check and correct application information" is now gone. have you guys encountered this before?
5) i went to TPE to talk to the people and they were even more confused. they said theyve never seen a sentri card, even though i told them that sentri includes global entry. am i out of luck, since my application now says "global entry" but if my application gets approved (global entry listed), during my interview, the card will be a "sentri" card?

1) I haven't had login issues.
2) I only have two data points, but the reviews in each of my applications were fast, within a few hours.
3) I would put Global Entry since this is "e-Gate for Global Entry". NIA is unlikely to know what SENTRI or NEXUS are. (They're barely familiar with Global Entry.)
4) No, but I don't have SENTRI or NEXUS, only Global Entry. Given the number of people signed up for e-Gate for Global Entry, my guess is that you're the first person having applied with a SENTRI card. Perhaps there are others here with a NEXUS card who could provide some insight.
5) I would wait until the application has been approved and then go to the e-Gate enrollment desk at TPE with your approval information. A SENTRI card presents the same as a NEXUS or Global Entry card, and the format of the KTN is compatible. It's just that the name at the top is different. If the NIA employee has a reference image, my guess is that it's chabuduo enough to work.

I arrived at TPE on Sunday evening and proceeded to use the e-Gates with my ARC to check it out. Despite going to the e-Gate enrollment desk and getting an e-Gate sticker affixed to my ARC, my fingerprints weren't on file. I did the enrollment at the e-Gate itself, which I knew that Taiwan passport holders could do, but I didn't know other e-Gate eligible entrants could as well. I will use my ARC to exit tomorrow and my passport during my next entry. I suspect that my passport still is not enrolled.
