This is not true. If you read my posts #112/#117 in this thread you will see that the adjusted refusal rate for Argentines was 4% in 2007.

Of the people I know who have entered the US with an intention to overstay, non of them have applied for a tourist visa (since they surely knew they would be refused). Most of them gained an Italian or Spanish passport via a grandparent, and entered under the visa waiver program.

John

I guess that whatever percentage that did not get a visa then had their money refunded? No? So thank you for making my point. They paid their money and did not get a visa. I am not sure why this discussion is still going on.

Wrong,,, try Toulouse France, and it doesnt matter as he considered Argentina as his place of birth certainly not Uruguay. As far as tango in Uruguay,,Buenos Aires ( not the rest of Argentina) ranks first then before Uruguay,, NYC, Italy Berlin and Tokyo have more and better tango than Uruguay,,, ( Finland even claims tango but it is a different tango)

I agree with your third point - but not the first two.

This link might clarify it for you. Maybe a good stop for those visiting Uruguay?

Since he claimed he was born when he came to Buenos Aires I am willing to end it here since no one will ever figure out where he was actually born.

No, they do this because they want the money. Nothing more. In fact if you win the green card lottery (a legal immigration lottery than allows 50,000 foreigners to work legally in the US every year), than you must pay a $750.00 interview fee. Of course if you fail the interview or do find someone to "sponsor" you, than you lose the money. And that is per person, so in the case of a husband or wife who wins the green card and only earns 1,500.00 per year, they must pay it all for an interview. On the The statue of liberty there is quote which says ". . . give my you tired and poor . . " But it should say give me your money. As an American I am embarrassed by this. It is sad, really sad.

It appears that implementation of the tax has been postponed (apparently to March). US citizens have reported this arriving at EZE today. Eastbay1K should be able to report in soon too ....

That is good to hear.

I'm flying PDP-AEP on 1/7 so I'm hopeful I won't have to pay.

Eastbay1K Jan 1, 2009 9:45 pm

I am reporting that as of approx. 7:40pm local time, there is no fee.

I couldn't find anything on Timatic or the Arentine Embassy website here in Canada that even mentioned this fee forget about whether it's implementation has been delayed a few months. I leave for EZE in mid-June so am not in a rush but wouldn't mind some clarity about whether this fee is going to greet me upon arrival.

From the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade website:

http://www.voyage.gc.ca/countries_pa...asp?id=11000#4

Argentine officials have announced a reciprocity fee will be charged to citizens of countries that require a visitor visa for Argentine citizens, including Canada. The tentative date for the application of this fee is March 1, 2009. The entry fee will be payable at airports on arrival.
