If they implement the program similar to how Chile does it, no they will not check for prior payment of the fee when leaving. Also still to be determined is if this will be charged at land and water entries.

The peso continues to weaken today, averaging 3.32/3.36 (buy/sell).

The Central Bank (BCRA) apparently did not intervene yesterday to support the peso.

The MERVAL is trading lower again after a brief rally this morning following the overnight strengthening in many European and Asian Markets.

You've actually done this? Please share.

Supposed to be good only for the remaining life of the particular US or Canadian passport.

Not to mention there is a stamp under the receipt in the passport which is more important than the the stapled receipt.

You're right. I looked at it right now. It says for the duration of the passport. That really sucks since I'm going to Argentina with a passport that expires in 3.5 years!

Yes, I've had that experience wth Chile -- it can be exasperating to pay the fee if your passport is near expiration. And if you're travelling with kids, that's likely to be the case, because US childrens passports expire in 5 years.

I guess now if you were planning a whirlwind South American itinerary, it might pay to get a new US passport before departing so you could keep the visas valid for a full 10 years.

That definitely crossed my mind.

Hello.

Are EU citizens exempt from this visa fee?

I think I read this but I'd like to know for sure!

Thanks for any answers.^

I understand all Shengen Nations are excluded from this fee. Unless you hold a European Passport issued by a nation that requires entry Visas for Argentines... you should be OK.

Thanks Gaucho100k^

We'll be back in BA in feb so we'll be seeing you at your store again!

Yes this is correct - there's a wiki on it too (Argentina will only be charging citizens of those nations that charge Argentine tourists a visa/fee):

If USA citizens would like to pay less, they can easily write to their house and senate representatives.

Cheap tourists do not really count towards the economy and if you consider $131 a show-stopper, it's because you fall in this category.

On the other side, if we want to atract more tourism, we must invest in infrastructure, hotels, security and in a gang to incinerate Global Exchange and every other company that robes visitors.

Sorry, couldn't disagree more.

How many tourists are really longer-term "residents" that just make a visa run to Uruguay (or somewhere else) every 90 days. These people pay rent, buy food, and spend quite a bit in Argentina. Expect a lot of that to go away when you start charging $130 a pop.

Ok...it might not be as dire. Provided the US$130 is good for the life of the passport than this isn't as terrible as it first sounded.

Not if your passport is relatively new and you visit Argentina regularly. Those visiting once in their lifetimes it's not such a great deal.

Has it been officially confirmed that the $130 fee will be good for the life of the passport like Chile?
