I thought this article was interesting. Brazil admits their visa fee is hurting tourism, best guestimate is about 40 percent. Forty percent more tourists will bring in more money than this proposed visa fee. If you thing about it, a family of four traveling to Argentina will have to pay $520 just for this one fee. It will be enough to detour travel plans somewhere else.

It's a no-brainer to conclude that high visitation fees discourage tourism. I've actually got a family of 5 -- do the math. It becomes a crazy price, for essentially nothing. You start looking elsewhere. And for short trips (like a stopover in BA), forget about it.

EZE reciprocity fee

Hi all,

I'll be flying into EZE on the 2nd of March.
Just wondering if anyone knows if they will in fact start charging the reciprocity fee as of the 1st of March?

Have been trying to google the answer but there is very little information about.

If it does come into effect on the 1st of March, has anyone heard what the reciprocity fee will be for Australians?

Cheers

John

Still no definite answer has been forthcoming from the government. The fee for Australians by all accounts will be US$100 (see my post #29 in this thread).

Flew in to EZE on Feb 21st. No fee collected, nor any visual signs of the infrastructure being put in place to collect the fees (i.e. credit card terminals, signage, etc).

Supposedly this was to be implemented on March 1st... but still nothing further from any official source.

I'm more than a little curious to see what happens here - I'll be over to Punta for the weekend, and would rather like to know if I'll be asked for US$130 upon return. Especially if they demand it in cash or something...

Why US$130.... wasnt it going to be US$100 or did I miss something.

Schultzois Feb 24, 2009 11:03 am

I'm not sure about the $130. I thought I read that somewhere.

I also thought that might be the fee payable for a US tourist visa, but I could be mistaken.

$131, whatever "we" stiff everyone else for when applying for a visa.

Alex, the US increased visa application fees from US$100 to US$131 on January 1, 2008 (see post #59).

Most likely the fee will payable in pesos, US$, (possibly euros), and by credit card. These are the forms of payment accepted for the airport exit tax.

Agreed... even if you pay cash, you will get an official receipt so I dont think you have to worry about anybody pocketing the $$$. At EZE this will be under quite some scrutiny... for land entries this may be another matter.

The US Embassy American Citizen Services in BsAs is reporting that the introduction of the reciprocity fee has been delayed ... again ... but no details on when it will be implemented.

As I have a trip to Argentina and Brazil in November, I was surprised to discover this thread and very disappointed to learn of the impending visa reciprocity fee that will apply to Americans traveling to Argentina. With Brazil already charging such a fee, the costs of my visit to South America are really starting to mount. I hope that the implementation of the fee is delayed beyond the start of my trip. Actually, I hope that the fee is never implemented, but I understand that its implementation is a direct response to the fees that our government imposes on visitors to our country from our neighbors to the south. :(
