A couple of places I found to be excellent. One is CARDON in Recolletta. Not the cheapest, but very good quality and selection. Also lots of handicrafts and gifts which are a few notches above the quality in most of the many gift shops.
I had a beautiful jacket custom made at Menash on Parguay. The cost was a third of what I would have paid in the states.

If you want to be a little more adventurous and are willing to walk around a bit, try Once. I got a great leather jacket there for $100USD. But you have to shop around, lots of the stuff in Once is cheap and cheaply made. The shop I bought at is right at one of the Once subway entrances, can't remember which stop though.

Airport to Buquebus terminal

What is the most practical way to get from the airport (EZE) to the Buquebus terminal? I will be coming in for the next Cow DO a bit early and am thinking about spending the first night in Colonia. Any tips would be appreciated.

You can take a taxi straight from the airport to the Buquebus terminal or you can take the bus to near Plaza San Martin and then either walk to Buquebus or take a taxi there (depending on how much you like walking with your luggage). The savings would be quite a bit measured in pesos but not break $12 USD.

How much do you think it would cost for a taxi the whole way?

Just take a remissa to the burquebus depot.Charge will be the same as to a Recoletta hotel-I belive it was 74 pesos for Manuel Tied Leon.Easy, safe and cheap.

Manuel Tienda Leon is a lot less than the 72-74 pesos charge (or even quite a bit less) for a non-taxi hired car (remise) from EZE to downtown (including Recoleta).

Nowadays, IIRC, Manuela Tienda Leon is around 25 pesos to San Martin. From there to Buquebus or Recoleta a cab would be less than 6 or 10 pesos. The bus may mean waiting 15 minutes, but it's not a bad option and could be one that a solo traveller would prefer if they like interacting with locals and other solo travellers.

A taxi costs around 40-65 pesos depending on where you are going.

Personally, I'd recommend a taxi or the Manuel Tienda Leon bus + taxi over a remise.

Thanks some more! Think I will take the taxi since I will be carting luggage/laptop, etc.

I took the Manuela Tienda Leon bus to San Martin 5 times and I enjoyed it very much. Sometimes it was like a Greyhound coach and sometimes about 1 third that size. But I liked the experience and reliability. It was mostly on time.

I also took a remise once, and it was good, too. I learned some useful and critical Spanish words from Jorge, my driver, that I still remember. But the bus was about US$6 and the remise was US$17.
