If a taxi speeds up too much. I'll just stop and let it hit me. :) Most don't want to total their taxis.

Try telling your taxi driver to speed up as you approach crosswalks. :)

Trying to understand the ferry system...
Wife and I are arriving in MVD mid-August, hang out a few days, then plan to get across the water to Buenos Aires, then on to Santiago.
In terms of the ferry, I found the Buquebus and Colonia Express websites. Since my Spanish is horrible, I cannot understand the schedules. I think I figured out that the ferry that buses you over to Colonia then boats you across to BA is the cheaper option (according to Buquebus). Can I take an early bus to Colonia to see the sights, then take a later ferry the same day, like sometime that evening? The Colonia Express site seems to only show ferry times leaving Colonia, but no schedule for the "Bus from Montevideo, then ferry to BA." Anyone have a recent experience with a Montevideo-Colonia-Buenos Aires shuffle that could confirm my search? Is it best to buy online or at the sales office when we get to MVD? Thanks! |

Lance;
We use 24:00 clocks down here, like the American military. It looks like the last ferry from colonia leaves at midnight. |

I recall when I was looking at the Buquebus schedule earlier this year, that there was a button to select English.

Other FlyerTalk members will give you some excellent suggestions, but I recommend a steak dinner as part of your layover. It has been greater than 3 years since I have been there, so I will leave the restaurant recommendations to those FlyerTalk members who have been there more recently. |
Plenty of time for you to stroll into town and do a little walking, sight-seeing and grab a nice meal.

Seems the general impression of Aerolineas has been confirmed.....Sam
Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral have been rated among the worst air carriers out of a total of 90 in five continents according to the Argentine Tourism Law Association, Aadetur, which ranks them 81 and 82. Only eight companies have an even more disappointing performance than the two Argentine air carriers and they belong to Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Libya and Algeria. Another regional company with a dismal record is Air Comet (84) which also happens to belong to the Spanish Marsans, who until recently held a majority stake in the two Argentine companies, Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral currently in the process of being absorbed by the Argentine government. The performance of both Argentine airlines was even worse last year when they ranked 86 and 87, according to Aadetur. “Yes, both companies improved a bit, but they are still miles away from an even acceptable performance”, said Diego Benitez, head of Aadetur talking to the local media in Buenos Aires. In the first half of this year only 55% of Aerolineas flights kept to schedule, and Austral 53%. |

Hello, I have been reading this forum avidly to prepare for my first trip to Argentina in Sept/Oct 08. Thanks everyone for creating a site with so much great information! I arrive in BA on Sunday 28 Sept and want to book tickets for a Boca Juniors or River Plate game that same afternoon. Firstly, if I land at 10.35am will it be enough time to get to my hotel and then the game? On this site the ticketek argentina site was recommended for booking tickets but when I go to the ticketek site (futbol section), it says there are no games. Does that mean no tickets are left or that I can't read spanish very well (most likely)? Is there another way to organise tickets and roughly how much are tickets in the reserved seats section? Sorry for so many questions on the one post.
|
Ticketek offers tickets to many games... but I dont think they ever get decent allocations for Boca/River matches. As Ive stated before, this game is a huge occasion and IMHO the only realistic chance a visitor has to attend this game and have a chance to have an enjoyable experience is to book a tour service.
If you land at 1030... then you will probably not have enough time to make the game... unless its a late afternoon game with kickoff at around 1800hs.... alas, its hard to tell in advance as to what timing the Argentine Football Association will decide for the match. Sorry to not have more encouraging news. |
