Missed your question about Iguazu, Mendoza, Buenos Aires being too much for two weeks. I think that is very doable with the right planning. And if you can get the One World Visit South America Pass each flight AEP-IGR, IGR-AEP and AEP-MDZ, MDZ-AEP would be U$S125 each way plus taxes etc. If not here is the link for the Aerolineas pass

Q about sidetrips: I'm in the process of firming up my first S. American holiday and have some time late May '09 and want to visit EZE but wanted some feedback about doing both MVD for 3-4 days and IGU for 1-2 days during my time in Argentina. This would take my total holiday time to around 2 weeks, not as much as I'd like of course but all I can really squeeze out at that time. Can I use EZE as a good base to get to/from MVD? How cheaply can I get between EZE & MVD? Seeing Iguassu Falls would be of interest but again, feedback on timing, costs, must see sights and any other insights would be appreciated.

I would advise three days in Montevideo where one is in the city itself, one in Colonia del Sacramento approximately two hours to the west by automobile, and one in Punta Del Este approximately two hours to the east by automobile.

Iguazu Falls for two nights with a day sandwiched between two half days was ideal for me.

Because of a ridiculously cheap airfare several years ago, I flew on United Airlines round-trip between Buenos Aires and Montevideo. The same trip could have been done on American Airlines. I do not know about today, however.

Has somebody been there?

José Ignacio, a small village on the southern coast of Uruguay, the traffic jams are something of a shock. Not long ago, this was a sleepy fishing outpost, a refuge for loners and the occasional celebrity seeking to escape the paparazzi in nearby Punta del Este...in the last five years, José Ignacio has evolved into arguably the chicest spot in Latin America, favored by jet-setters from around the world.

does anyone know how much they enforce the 5kg (11lb) weight limit on carry-on bags for domestic flights?
i also read they dont allow liquids like in the US (small bottles in a ziploc bag) on carry-ons. again, is this true and is it enforced?
many thanks,
b

Jose Ignacio is just another "invention" from the folks that brought you Punta del Este...... :D Nice.... very much in fashion... and yes, very expensive.... ;)

Enforcement of these rules on domestic flights is spotty.... I think chances of you having issues with these things is less than 5%. I would not worry about it, just use common sense and you will be ok.

A question for those of you who travel out of EZE often:

What's with the wrapping of luggage with plastic wrap when leaving the country?
Is this to prevent theft from inside the luggage while it is being screened and loaded on the plane?
Do you have it done to your luggage?
Do you recommend doing it?
What does it cost?

Gaucho100K Nov 14, 2008 2:31 am

The plastic wrap thing is supposed to help you bags not get scratched... but they also market it as a theft deterrent, etc. I dont know what it costs but I remember its not cheap.

FWIW, I never use it.

I did this the last time I was there on two bags. One, was coming apart so this made it much more structurally secure, and two, it deters theft. It was 16$, and that included an insurance if there was theft or damage. The company that did it was very reputable, I saw the same company name, brand, forms, machines, outfits at multiple airports.

Please note that to get proper insurance coverge, you may need to itemize what you have in your bags... else your compensation may be subject to a lump sum clause and you may end up being under-paid for your losses...

Except now it's cooler :) Over the past few days it has been a max in the low 30s, cooling off to the mid to low 20s overnight (it was still 27C at midnight last night), but the predicted max today is about 20.

Forecast for AEP: http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Wea...ation=ARDF0127 (downtown BsAs is usually a couple of degrees warmer than the airport).
