Just wondering if there is a reputable limousine service that someone can recommend that I can arrange prepaid airport transfers with?

KurtD Jan 29, 2006 11:23 am

Yes, Gaucho actually has been on vacation for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure exactly when he'll be back :)

The Bs. As. subway system (subte) is pretty good, not as modern as some in the U.S. but clean and reliable. They are cheap and usually faster than taxis. The public buses are also cheap and only slightly slower than cabs, but like any huge city the bus routes can be difficult to decipher. If you choose to use public transport be sure to purchase one of the pocket guides at a newstand, there is a commercially made guide with maps and schedules for everything.

One word of caution about the buses in the city: they are a thief's paradise.

Any comments on the hotel location?

I don't like the Sheraton Libertador's location and the hotel has certainly aged less well than the other major international brands in EZE. A handful like the location because they think it is more "authentic". But to me it's just another commercial area that is not in its beautiful prime -- just like the hotel.

Cabs are very cheap and the hotel is situated reasonably well if you don't mind taking a cab [or walking deserted streets at night/weekends -- not something I would suggest even though I have done it myself plenty of times] to most touristy places.

Wine tours in Mendoza

We will be in Medoza for the Vendimia Festival. We want to take a wine tour and have inquired about private tours with an english speaking guide. We are getting quoted 650 peso or higher for this at this time. Is this a reasonable price. I've seen someone on another board saying that you can get more general tours for 75 peso per person once you are there. Any advice?

Hello Jim. Could you please elaborate on what is being offered for the 650 pesos? Is this for the tour services only or does this include a vehicle? Is this for one day service only...? The difference between 75 pesos and 650 is too large for there not to be some serious differences in the amenities offered.

On a final note, anything under 100 pesos for the one day services of an English speaking guide is a very good price.

Any recommendations on where to book excursions from BsA? Although I have the Libertador booked for 6 nights it's cheap enough that I wouldn't mind spending a night or possibly two away on excursions. I've been hearing Iguacu is worth it. I want to set up at least 2 excursions... one to a Gaucho ranch and one to Iguacu. Maybe one more if there's time :)

But where is the best place to book something like air + hotel for Iguacu? I want to be sure to get good Peso rates, not American dollar tourist rates :)

Excursions from BA

Daveland: Iguazu Falls are way above all short excursions from BA.( Estancias / Tigre Delta islands/ Colonia in Uuguay), they are somehow a must that need a minimum overnight stay, better 2 nights 3 days, as rushing through the falls is not worthwhile in my humble oipinion.
Regarding Gaucho ranches close to BA there are many good choices and Argentinian websites dedicated to promote this proposals.
For Tigre Delta islands this web may help: www.welcomeargentina.com

For booking air + hotel I would try a Argentinian TA .

Thank You

Hi all -

Just wanted to write and say how informative this thread has been - I leave tomorrow for 2 weeks in Argentina, ending with 6 nights in the BA area (2 nights at Libertador, 2 nights at the Sheraton Convention Center) and 2 nights abroad... probably Uruguay!

Any ways, look for trip reports when I get back, I am running the gauntlet of Sheraton hotels - 4pt Santiago, Libertador, Sheraton BA, Iguasu... before my Platinum status runs out at the end of the month :(

Take care, safe travels.

T.

Thanks Santiagov - do you recommend an Argentinian TA? Should we wait to book until we actually arrive in BA or attempt to do so before we come down there?

I can recommend TTS Viajes. I deal with Taty Olguin (Ms) and she is very professional. Im not too sure she is fluent in English, but if this is an issue she will pass you onto an associate and they will take good care of you.

Local phone for Taty is 6333-3385. TTS has a website which can be located at http://www.ttsviajes.com/

Thanks! Would you happen to know if there is an English version of the website? ;)

It's been my experience that the Concierge or Front Desk Staff at the better hotels in BsArs can get you hooked up with a wide variety of excursion providers...
