It wasn't a link, just the site name but if you type the URL in and add a '.ar' to the end and it should work

Another flight to where? If you are clearing customs, are you flying to another destination in Argentina? If so, you would fly out of the domestic airport in BsAs (Aeroparque). If you do a search you will find several threads giving information about travel time and options on getting to the other airport.

Great info here.

Figures I read through 76 pages of information (over the course of a number of sittings/days) and it isn't until the 75th page that I find the information regarding the Opera being cancelled. :(

Anything new in that department? I was going to ask for someone to translate the page that had the schedule, since I can't seem to find it in English anywhere - looking for showtimes Nov 24-26th.

Since I've got a captive audience though, what is considered standard dress for the opera?

Also, for places like Nectarine, what is considered standard dress?

Thanks again for all the great info!

Teatro Colon season cancelled

Hi miles2go and fellow opera fan --in mourning. The last opera of the season during the time you will be there was going to be Puccini's Turandot. Yum.

Months ago, I arranged the timing of my entire trip to be in town just for that opera - and maybe see it 3 times! There is another opera company - Buenos Aires Opera -- but it looks like its season was over in October. My fall back will be tango and soccer -- but it just won't be the same. :( But a chance to see Boca Jr's or Rio Plata ......well? That will be world class theater as well.

I am hoping that at least there might still be back stage tours of Teatro Colon, because it is such a legendary opera house itself. Any word on that Gaucho?

And agree, this whole thread was several wonderful days of reading and beginning to feel like I know and understand the city. Thanks again to Gaucho and all the other posters who have contributed here.

I arrive on the new Continental flight IAH-EZE at 10:30, connecting to a TAM flight to GIG. how much time do you think it'll take?

Gaucho100K Nov 8, 2005 6:13 pm

I understand the guided tours of the Colon are still going on. Please reconfirm this with your hotel concierge upon arrival to EZE.

The real variable is the immigration lines .... with the occassional customs line (for baggage screening). It's never taken me more than 1 hour to get through for an international connection there -- and those were on rather bad days by EZE standards.

Are you going to have to go airside to claim your boarding pass or will CO check you through all the way with boarding pass included? If you have to check-in again with TAM, then that may well require more time given minimum check-in cut-offs and other airport/airline formalities.

SoFlyOn Nov 8, 2005 8:19 pm

When you check in with Continental you should see if they can issue your TAM boarding pass. Ezeiza has facilities for passengers in transit so they do not go through customs and immigration. Search for "transit" on
http://www.aa2000.com.ar (english is an option for this web site).

Remember if you enter Argentina you still in all probability will have to pay the US$18 exit tax to leave.

Per the November 1 e-mail from the BA Hilton Concierge:

" As to the Colon Opera House, this has not been a happy season, due to many strikes during the year made by the employees..... Regarding the guided visits they are suspended for the time being." :(

Teatro Colon back stage tours

Gaucho,

If enough of us are in BsAs at the same time who want a back stage tour of Teatro Colon, do you think your friends in the Teatro Colon Foundation could arrange a tour ....for a suitable donation to the Foundation?

Anyone else who would be interested the first week in December? Donate the price of our now cancelled opera tickets? I hate to be in the neighborhood and not at least see this wonderful performing hall.

I will ask, but anticipate that this is a very very long shot. There are labor issues in this entire mess and staging "alternate" tours could be taken as a provocation. Im not sure that the foundation wants to get in the middle of this, but I will make some calls and report back.

Sorry, this probably just got missed in my other message. Any thoughts?

Nectarine dress code

Nectarine does not enforce a dress code, its not that style of a restaurant. A coat and tie are not mandatory, as long as you stay away from shorts and beach sandals, you will be fine.

HOSTEL PARK IGUAZU, COMO EN CASA BED & BREAKFAST

Hello all,

Just found this thread and I love it. My friend and I are going to BA in December and we were wondering what are your thoughts on the COMO EN CASA BED & BREAKFAST? Also the hostel park Iguazu. Anyone stayed there? Thanks for your feedback.

Gaucho,

What are your thoughts on those venues? Also we want to catch an overnight bus to Iguazu. How long is the drive and it is pleasant?

Im afraid I dont know the B&B you mention. Bus ride to Iguazu is approx 13-14 hours, and service is comfortable if you book the super sleeper buses.
