This has the info:

Electricity in Argentina is 220 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. If you travel to Argentina with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter.

There are three main types of voltage converter. Resistor-network converters will usually be advertised as supporting something like 50-1600 Watts. They are light-weight and support high-wattage electrical appliances like hair dryers and irons. However, they can only be used for short periods of time and are not ideal for digital devices.

Transformers will have a much lower maximum Watt rating, usually 50 or 100. Transformers can often be used continuously and provide better electricity for low wattage appliances like battery chargers, radios, laptop computers, cameras, mp3 players and camcorders. However, they are heavy because they contain large iron rods and lots of copper wire.

Some companies sell combination converters that include both a resistor network and a transformer in the same package. This kind of converter will usually come with a switch that switches between the two modes. If you absolutely need both types of converter, then this is the type to buy.

Argentina Plug Adapters and Outlet Shapes

Outlets in Argentina generally accept one type of plug:
V-shaped flat prongs
If your appliances plug has a different shape, you may need a plug adapter.

Depending on how much you plan to travel in the future, it may be worthwhile to get a combination voltage converter and plug adapter.

For polo matches, they will be at 4.30 p.m. at the Campo Argentino de Polo in the Palermo neighborhood near the Islamic Center of Buenos Aires on the weekends only at the time you are there. (All the taxi drivers know where it is.) It should be the semi-finals around the time you are there. I would get tickets at least one or two days before the desired date to go -- even if you have to pick them up at the ticket windows there -- and just have the hotel concierge arrange for it or wait until you get there.

Soccer matches are here:

Look up Buenos Aires therein. The most popular teams are River Plate and Boca Juniors.

Thanks

Thanks for the info GU! There are way too many things to do on our one Sunday (flea markets and San Telmo and all), so we will have to make a decision about soccer and polo and how much we can pack into 1 day!

Here's another question---- we are in our 50's and looking for a nice jazz or blues club or wine club to spend a late night out. Any ideas?

There is also the flea market in Recoleta, and if you are interested in something other than jazz and blues, how about not a tourist tango show but a real tango at a milonga some of which have live music. If you are lucky you can catch an orchestra like Color Tango or Le Reyes de Tango and take a short lesson and stay all night for under 10 pesos in a place like Confiteria Ideal on Suicpacha (300's) ( only certain nights) so you have to check first, There are other places if you are interested.Being in your 50's is fine, you will find people from 18-80

Thanks NY Tango! That sounds like fun. My husband loves the bandoneon, but he won't dance. :( If one of the popular bands is playing, do we need reservations to get in?

Out of all the flea markets, which one is the most fun and offers the best shopping opportunities? Do you think we can make it to more than 1 in a day? Isn't the one in Recoleta on Saturdays as well?

nytango Oct 30, 2005 4:36 pm

yes recoleta is sat and sunday,,,,, you dont need reserv but if you want to sit on dance floor not in back you should call ... I will check to see if I can find out schedules,,,, of orchestras....or when you get down there stop in they are pretty helpfull...(sometimes) 10 pesos 3$ admission ( but that is a subject of dispute because thats what they charge tourists,, porteno's 5 pesos...) but for $3 who argues

At EZE airport there is an ATM. You will get a better exchange rate that way than at either of the money exchange facilities there; but you should factor in any charges that your US bank may assess on international ATM withdrawals.

(Citibank account holders can use one of the many Citibank ATMs in the city itself -- not the airport -- to avoid these charges I believe.)

At EZE there are at least two ATMs. One in this glass-booth and another from HSBC. I use Netbank for this ATM withdrawals ... never charged a fee.

Deciding between two hotels

Trying to decide between the Wilton($90+taxes for a jr.suite,$120+taxes for a full suite)And the Plaza Francia($140 all in. for a top floor Jr.suite with balcony)any thoughts-other places I should look into. This is the type/class of hotel we are comfortable with. And the prices are ok in our minds(of course if we could find the same for less we would not complain :D )

Buenos Aires in March

So I've got the ticket's to come down to EZE in March for my family and I on Continental- Super excited. We will be staying for five nights in Buenos Aires at the Hilton and hope to go the Igauzu fall for two nights. I've skimmed he majority of this thread and still have a couple of questions:
- Six of us are coming down- any idea how much a van from the airport is? and how much would it cost to rent a van and driver for a day?
- Best place to unwind and relax (ie spa type place where i can get a massage and the gals can get pedicures or facials)
- would love to take in a show or a opera or something- any thoughts?
- is going to colonia worth it for a day?
- march- looks like average weather is high 70's F-> is it ok beach weather and what is typical beach attire?
- steak-> lots of different places- would prefer the best value and not to touristy.
- Best wine shop (ie Gaucho where is your wine shop)
- and finally Iguazu- I contacted Daniela at consult-ar.com and the package price for each person for 2 nights, roundtrip airfare is 478 for jungle view at the sheraton, 555 for falls view- is that an appropriate deal-> it includes all taxes but no transfers- I priced tickets on aerolineas aerogintinas for $201 per person, all in so it seems that that would be quite a premium for the rooms at the sheraton. incidentally there is no availability at SPG for the sheraton but are there any other places to book a room?

thanks!
Chris <--- super excited!!!!

Yes.

Rio Alba would be one recommendation from me.

Also, there is a parilla with a local flavor located across the street from a local mall where you can get an excellent steak dinner for appoximately US$8.00, including tax, tip and helado for dessert, although the portions are substantially smaller but still delicious and satisfying.

I forget the name of the restaurant, but its name is not apparent between the name on the outside of the restaurant and the name Gaucho100K recommended.

This place is definitely not touristy, and nobody speaks English.

That did not stop me, however. I ate well despite knowing little Spanish.

There are other places, but none where you can earn or use points (if that is important to you) and certainly no other place where you can stay inside the park overnight other than camping out.

My experience is that even though you may book a room at the Sheraton at Iguazu at a myriad of Internet web sites, none were less expensive than what was offered at www.spg.com.

I do not know if other Internet web sites will offer rooms if they are no longer available at www.spg.com, however.

Are you with me, FlyingDoctorwu?
Are you really just the shadow

Any thoughts on the San Telmo Antiques Fair- worth spending an afternoon on a sunday at?
