While we were in Bariloche, what we noticed when riding the bus, the locals would get on without a card, and ask another local to "borrow" their card, swipe it, hand it back to the lender, and then pay them the 15 cents or whatever it was. Happened on most every bus ride.

Of all things to have a shortage of?

Has the shortage of SUBE cards in Buenos Aires been resolved? Do I have to scheme to get one, or are they now readily available?

Dont know if this is too late for you... but here goes anyway. You mention meet & greet... for this, I would suggest you hire a Private Guide that may just kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I would suggest you contact Gloria Parera, she is an amazing private guide that Ive worked with for over 15 years, she is 100% reliable…

I have farmed out dozens of clients to Gloria over more than a decade and can attest to her superb service & reliability. She is a seasoned professional, speaks perfect English… From show tickets to restaurant suggestions, she can do it all. Gloria is not a budget guide, but her fees are very fair given her experience, contacts and the level of service she provides. You will not be disappointed and your parents will have an amazing companion for their EZE experience.

Cheers,

Gaucho, I will attest and also thank you for the referral. Gloria was excellent and the highlight of our three day stay in early November.

Gaucho, Arriving EZE on 11/28 mid afternoon for a 23:00 departure. Any suggestions for a top notch steakhouse? I know most close at 15:30 and reopen 20:00. I’m concerned about a dinner rez, as don’t wish to cut the arrival back at EZE to close.

While not a traditional steakhouse, I would suggest Happening in Costanera. Not sure they close in the afternoons, but you should be able to get a table at 530-600pm and be back in EZE ontime for your departure.... just have a car standby would be my other suggestion.

I would second Gaucho100K 's suggestion of the Happening. We used to go a lot pre Pandemia . It used to open from 12.00 straight through until 01.00 am - I think this is still the case.

Not a lot but, yes, I'm staying in Centro, and I'd like to be able to take the metro. Doing so is usually not a difficult thing to do. But in Argentina today, things that shouldn't be difficult sometimes can be -- unexpectedly. I want to avoid the hassles.

Also, I may want to take a public bus ride in Barloche and, again, I apparently need a SUBE card to do so.

I would avoid public transportation in the city, especially as a visitor and considering the cost of Taxis and other alternatives.....

Is it unsafe now?

EDIT:

As an alternative, would you recommend taxi or Uber? I recall occasional delays finding a taxi the last time we were in BA. We've never used Uber in BA, but we generally prefer it to taxis when we travel. And not having to handle small bills in BA -- or ask a a taxi driver if he takes credit cards -- seems better.

The Open25 kioscos at EZE usually sell SUBEs. In town your best shot are usually lottery stores.

Uber and Cabify work well in Buenos Aires -- for Uber I try to use the more expensive options as the cars are significantly better (and it's still very cheap).

At peak traffic times, sitting in a car isn't always the most special of times. Also, one needs to be diligent on seeing if/when/where there are total traffic blocks due to the protest du jour. During those times, the SUBTE can be the best option. The Metrobus del Bajo is going to get me to/from Retiro faster than any private vehicle.

Agreed, and if your taking the bus as I sometimes do, some of those Colectivo drivers believe they’re driving a Ferrari
