Would appreciate any thoughts on Marriott, Sheraton, or Hilton for first trip for our family of 4 based on location, elite recognition (Marriott Platinum and Hilton Diamond), lounge, amenities, etc
|
Im a local so my direct experience with Buenos Aires hotels is limited.... but my international clients tend to favour Hyatt and Hilton over Marriott. Im sure the other board regulars will also chime in. Hilton has multiple properties in the City (DoubleTree, Hilton Puerto Madero, Hilton Curio in San Telmo).... so make sure to shop around. The Buenos Aires Sheraton in Retiro is a classic, and while its not a super luxury option it is better than most run of the mill Sheratons in the USA.
Stay tuned for what the other EZE resident experts will be able to share, especially re. elite recognition. Cheers, Alex / Gaucho100K

Wherever you are, taxis and Uber / Cabify are generally plentiful and inexpensive. I can't speak for hotel amenities, notwithstanding my lifetime Marriott status, because I've not stayed in a hotel there for nearly 18 years. |

Location? I'd suggest the Marriott. Its location on 9 de Julio is as central as can be, right by the Subte, Metrobus, and central to pretty much everything. Sheraton isn't in a bad location, but you may feel a bit isolated, especially walking in the wrong direction at night. It is right by Retiro station, should you be taking the train up to Tigre or up that way, and a close to the Buquebus terminal, should you be taking a side trip to Uruguay. Hilton is perhaps the least "central" but not by much. Also a very short walk to the Buquebus, and is in a pleasant and modern area (Pto. Madero). The Curio (San Telmo) is a cool location - just a few blocks from my place - in an old historic area with lots of antique shops. (Just note that Sunday is a large street fair and hotel access by car is limited.)

Taxis of that size are rare.... so you may be looking at flagging down or ordering 2 vehicles....

Thanks! Specifically on taxis/Uber/Cabify, do any there typically offer rides for 5 or 6 people?

A large(r) vehicle doesnt always mean more allowable pax... remember that (at least in theory) the one seat-belt per pax rule applies... having more people than seatbelts in any vehicle would mean potential issues with police, void of insurance..... etc. etc. Unless you can get a 3 row SUV.... and Im not very confident those will be readily available unless you are willing to wait and/or pay a considerable premium. Is UberXL even offered in Argentina.....?
Sorry, Im not super well versed with ride apps here in town, but I would suggest treading with caution - and assume you will need 2 vehicles to move around your party of 6 pax. Also, are you considering the number of suitcases & bags you all have....???

You can order a large Cabify. Even with that, probably a very tight squeeze. I rarely use UBER there, but probably the same. Taxis on the street - good luck.

Revent various data points.
American Express - $1398 to $1. Blue exchange $1410 to $1 EZE immigration line yesterday AM. Bad. After a few minutes in line (I was in the third row in when I arrived) it went to just about the escalator. |
What time in the morning? The usual US rush around 7-8a?

Out of the Marriott options, I highly recommend the new Recoleta Grand. Nice walkable location and new modern design. I also like Park Tower, but it’s very old, and Park Hyatt, but it’s very expensive. Anselmo (Hilton Curio) is awful and I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. The actual Marriott is fine but odd in several ways (though, the location is very central).

Thank you for the report on the Recoleta Grand.
I will confess to being a little surprise on your comments on the Anselmo Hilton Curio.... a couple of regular visitors to EZE here on FT have stayed there a couple of times before and had positive reviews... would you care to elaborate a little on your experience...? This would be super useful as this property is one of the options for the Hilton loyalists coming down to EZE for the upcoming COW DO over labor day weekend.... Thanks !!

My main issues were no AC, very poor hot water pressure, and no made-to-order eggs at breakfast. The lack of AC was a major dealbreaker. I had an interior-facing room so couldn’t even open a window for airflow. It was horrid. |
