Newport News, VA to Penn Station

Does anyone know of any discount codes that can be used for next week going from Newport news to Penn Station? I currently have the military discounted rate but was checking to see if I could do any better on the fare. There are two adults and two children. Thanks

Hello All,

I just wanted to say that at Flyertalk, we welcome anyone interested in travel. The purpose of this thread isn't necessarily a "Can you help me find a cheaper fare from X-Y?" but a place to share information on available discounts. Before asking for help, please try to help yourselves. If available, the terms & conditions of each code is posted below. If your travel meets these terms & conditions, then try test-selling - choose the fare you're most comfortable with. We welcome the new folks here readily, but I would like to request that if you're looking for a specific fare, that you realize that the majority of us are not travel agents and that although we're willing to help you out, it's always appreciated if you try to help yourself first - then maybe we can help you out a little more.

Thanks!

***Please post on this thread if a code is old & doesn't work anymore OR if you've found a new one that does work & I will try to keep it updated.***

Buy-1-Get-1 Free for College Visits - I know nothing about this one, but I saw it online: http://www.onebigcampus.com/html/amtrak_discount.htm OR http://www.campusvisit.com/amtrak/

Veteran's Advantage - 15% off Unlike Student Advantage, I'm guessing you really do have to be a veteran for this one - http://www.veteransadvantage.com/par...amtrak-50.html

Information on the NARP discount - http://www.narprail.org/dis.htm

X142 - 10% FlexCar discounts for Amtrak Cascades - valid through 5/28/05 - also found one for Seattle.

***

I always test sell all the codes as sometimes codes are valid on a route that we don't think they are valid on, so it doesn't hurt to try. It usually only takes about an extra 10 minutes.

When doing test sells, I recommend trying to do it off of the AAA rate first - if that doesn't work, try doing it off the regular rate.

Check the last few pages for current codes - I’ll try to keep this updated regarding current Amtrak promos & codes – if I slack off on it, I apologize in advance

Hope this helps people out!

^ Thank you so much, the buy 1 get 1 free for college visits was a great tip. We just booked tonight and I came upon this web site by asking Jeeves for Amtrak promotion codes. Thans again!

Anyone have any codes valid for travel PHL-NYP in February? All the posted codes expire in January. Thanks.

Code V755 is valid until May and provides 50% off a companion fare for travel to PHL. Even though it is for travel to PHL, it also works for round trips originating at PHL. No Acela or Metroliner (what a surprise), but reserved Regionals are OK. Two passengers travel RT PHL to NYP for $150 ($75 each).

Edit 1/15/05 @ 9:00pm EST

Code V755 is for travel beginning 2/14/05 (no blackout listed over the Presidents Day weekend). Code V730 is valid now until 3/14/05 (blackout 2/18 - 2/21) and offers the same 50% companion discount on Regionals.

V755 & V730 with Children?

Some relatives asked me to take a look at Amtrak fares between WAS and PHL on Regionals for the last weekend in February. I came across the V755/V730 and thought that would be a great way for them to save money, but has anyone else noticed the following restriction:

Their party is 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children. Has anyone else noticed that if you price the itinerary out with just 2 adults, you get the 50% discount on one, but add 2 children to the mix and the codes do not impact the fare? The terms and conditions as I found on Amtrak.com made no mention of this. I was confused why they don't just discount the adult companion and then add two child fares. Does anyone know anything more about this? Thanks very much.

Cheers.

Chris,

I just went through the same thing with our trip. I called and asked about this and was told that the 50% was only taken off one of the adult fares since the children are half off already. The agent I spoke with said she would do it manually for me if I wanted to use that code.

I ended up using code V626 which came out a few dollars less than the 50% off one adult fare.

Hope this helps.

Free Companion Fare Deal

Purchase one full adult fare and bring along a companion for free on the California Zephyr, Coast Starlight, Empire Builder, Heartland Flyer, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited, and Texas Eagle routes. For reservations, call 800-USA-RAIL and refer to DISCOUNT CODE H442.

After you make your reservation over the telephone with an agent and have a reservation number priced with the discount, you can pick up your tickets from any Amtrak Self Service Quik-Trak machine without having to surrender a coupon.

Sorry, but the discount code is not valid online and Amtrak telephone agents will not mail you tickets since the coupon says that it must be surrendered to an agent upon use. The only way to bypass this restriction is through the use of an Amtrak Self Service Quik-Trak machine.

Thanks - I'll update the first page! ^

Try this. Apparently if you send a SASE to this address, you can get the coupon for the western routes. I've seen some pop up on Ebay so they're out there. I haven't tried it yet.
J.S.Faires, Amtrak Sales & Marketing,
400 S. Houston Street, #100, Dallas,TX 75202

There's also a new 10% off to St. Louis coupon under the news page on Amtrak's site.
