PLEASE LIST YOUR RETENTION OFFERS IN THE CHART AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS WIKIPOST.
The 2024 version of this thread is HERE.
AmEx official term for what we call Retention Offer is Loyalty Incentive (offer). Amex representatives/agents have no discretion over retention offers, its all computer/algorithm generated. Often there are 2 offers; points or miles for certain spend within certain timeframe, statement credit for same spend and timeframe. The agent might only state one of these, might need to ask about the other if interested. Sometimes a 3rd offer to use miles or points to pay annual fee.
Usually available every 13 months. Accepting an offer obligates keeping the account open for 1 year.
Theres no rhyme or reason to these offers. Some high use cards get no significant offer, some minimal use cards get high offer. Offers can change on a daily basis. No reports of adverse action due to asking about retention offers too often. Can discuss multiple (personal or biz cards) in one call. Agents are required to read a somewhat lengthy disclaimer if an offer is accepted AND if an offer is declined.
Membership Consulting (Retention) department:

Amex Platinum
Spend $4,000 over next 90 days for 50,000 MR points. Gladly accepted. LOL
The initial agent had to transfer me to a different representative to give the offer. Also, for reference, I got the card in September of 2022, and this is the first time I've called for a retention offer.

Did you ask for an offer, or did they offer it when you asked to cancel?

I don't remember exactly when I received it, but it was about a month before it posted. I posted it in this thread, maybe like July? I contacted Amex via chat on my phone. They just told me about all the benefits and I told them I hardly use any. That was it. And then the CS sent me the information about the points I'll receive by the 90 day deadline. Mine is a personal platinum.

The 2 ways that I know of to get an offer is to say that you want to our are considering canceling the card or just straight up asking if there is any retention offer because the AF is too high. Both will achieve the same result of either getting an offer or offers that you may or may not like, or being told that there's no offer available.

When you contacted Amex you did mention though that you're considering to cancel the card so that's why you were transferred to retention dept and were given this offer. I was (mis)understanding from your other post above that you somehow got this offer without even contacting Amex and perhaps there was a pop up or something. For reference here's your post:

Consensus is that AmEx Retention Offers might be available 13 months after a preceding Retention Offer. Is that 13 months from Offer accepted date OR 13 months from required spend completion date (which could be months later) OR 13 months from date the agreed upon bonus MR (or other currency) post? Thank you.

They offered it when I mentioned I considered canceling as I found it difficult to use some of the benefits (mainly the FHR $200 hotel credit). She then went through the benefits I did utilize in 2024 (airline credit, digital entertainment, etc etc).

Personal Platinum, 35k points for $4K spend.
Used chat to tell them I was considering cancelling card due to high fee and not using all of the benefits.
Received "loyalty incentive" two years ago, did not try last year, Contacted them one week before statement date.
When they started the spiel about the benefits I was prepared and outlined all of the ones that I don't use.
They said "you did your homework" and made offer. Received points one week after spend.
