PLEASE LIST YOUR RETENTION OFFERS IN THE CHART AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS WIKIPOST.
The 2023 version of this thread is HERE.

AmEx official term for what we call Retention Offer is Loyalty Incentive (offer).
Amex representatives/agents have no discretion over retention offers, its all computer/algorithm generated. Often there are 2 offers; points or miles for certain spend within certain timeframe, statement credit for same spend and timeframe. The agent might only state one of these, might need to ask about the other if interested. Sometimes a 3rd offer to use miles or points to pay annual fee.

Usually available every 13 months. Accepting an offer obligates keeping the account open for 1 year.

Theres no rhyme or reason to these offers. Some high use cards get no significant offer, some minimal use cards get high offer. Offers can change on a daily basis. No reports of adverse action due to asking about retention offers too often. Can discuss multiple (personal or biz cards) in one call. Agents are required to read a somewhat lengthy disclaimer if an offer is accepted AND if an offer is declined.

Membership Consulting (Retention) department:
800.452.3945 (After entering your card number you may hear a "no longer in service" type of message -- if this happens, hangup and call again.)
-OR-
855.857.7657
Upon inputting full account number, without # sign, call will automatically route to Personal or Business Membership Consulting (Retention) department. Each department can only discuss the applicable cards.

Hours: 08:00 - 23:00 Eastern Standard Time
Chat with a Membership Consulting Services Monday to Friday, 9:00AM to 5:30PM ET (7/19 - quoted 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM ET for Amex Business account)

To access Chat:
Login to the Amex App, then press the Chat icon at top right.
Via the web:
Log into http://americanexpress.com
Select "Help" at top right
Select the blue "Live Chat" button.
  • If you product change your Amex, they will prorate the annual fee refund.
  • If you cancel your account completely, you will be refunded the annual fee if within 30 days of the print date of the statement showing the fee. After that, there's no refund.

Why would you spend $30k to get 40kMR if you can get 2x on the Blue Business Plus without annual fee? Platinum card is not about spend as there are better cards to do so.

Blue Business Plus 2X is capped at $50,000 per year. If your company is already spending many times that amount on a Business Platinum card you would earn the bonus without changing anything. This type of retention offer isn't aimed at people who are interested in miles and points, it is for people who are focused on running a business. Credit card rewards are an incidental consideration.

I have no problem meeting the spend organically on a $30k for 40k points offer, however I have plenty of recently received NLL mail offers that Amex has no issue approving me for and my $30k spend on those new cards will net me a whole lot more points than a measly 40k. So to me that logic doesn't really apply but maybe that's what Amex thinks it's doing when they offer me the lousy retention offers, but then they see me putting the spend on brand new cards...

It's still 10k more points than 2x so there's that, and also no $50k cap. But I agree that it's far from a compelling enough offer to keep the card and have myself turned it down.

I call B . Anyone asking for a retention offer is at some degree interested in MR. If you would be 100% business focused you get a cash back card.
Especially as this kind of retention offer was way more rewarding in the past. They changed their algo - but not to weed out tiny businesses as they still offer big SUBs to open new cards.

Exactly, I've been offered retention offers as high as 70k for $5k spend on Biz Plat. And like I said I have NLL offers with nice size SUBs. So why do you think they did change their algorithm 🤔?

Schwab Platinum: Was offered 15k points for $3k spend, declined. My annual fee will post in a week or two, will check again after posts. I am guessing the algorithm says I'll probably keep it open (which is accurate), so not expecting much.

No offers for Platinum or Aspire on phone call with Membership Consulting. 4th renewal of Platinum, last retention offer accepted more than 13 months prior. First renewal of Aspire. Will try again in 2 weeks or cancel both within 30 days of AF.

Delta Skymiles Platinum Card: Annual fee just posted, 50K spend on card last year. Offered $100 statement credit for $2k spend, or 15K skymiles for $1k spend. Declined and canceled as we are not remaining loyal to Delta after recent changes to Skymiles program and neither offer was worth keeping a $250 annual fee card in the drawer that offers no useful-to-us benefits we don't already have on other cards.

What would you folks choose from my offers?...

1.) $350 statement credit for $4k spend
2.) 35000 points after 4k spend?

I value 35k points at more than $350.

Yeah I have a pop up for 120k for 10k spend with NLL. Why would I keep the old card if I can get a new one with more points and less spend.

Amex Business Gold Card:
AF posted 1/9 at $295.
Was going to keep it anyway still for this year because it's easy for me to get back $20 every month at staples online or with Grubhub but chatted for a retention offer today. Was offered 10k points for $5k spend which I know is pretty lousy but accepted because I'm going to move the advertising spend from my other biz gold card to this one so the extra 10k points will more than cover the $55 net fee the card will cost me after the $240 staples/grubhub reimbursements.

Was offered 25K points with a $3K spend today. Haven't accepted but I will give one more try for 35K points , if not will take it.

Same offer on second attempt too

What is the likelihood that the offer instead disappears?

I don't think it's predictable but it can happen or that it will change to something less. Had that once where I waited to see if I'll get an increased offer and asked several times, but instead ended up accepting an offer that was 5k less than the original.
