- If you product change your Amex, they will prorate the annual fee refund.
- If you cancel your account completely, you will be refunded the annual fee if within 30 days of the print date of the statement showing the fee. After that, there's no refund.

AMEX Gold biz, offered $250 with no spend requirement. Annual fee is $295. I accepted offer. The credit is to post in 8 to 12 weeks.
It was made clear to me that I must keep the card for one year or have the $250 pulled back. I've made a note of April 13 and hope I remember next year when I will likely attempt to cancel card again.

Few month ago I called about a 13 month old account (offered bupkis) and as a BTW, asked about a 2 month old account. Shocked (pleasantly) to be offered 5,000 MR immediately plus 25,000 MR for $10,000 (which I already had planned for the card) in 92 days.

Earliest Retention offer Data Points (AFAIK):
Biz Plat opened on (2/28/22), AF posted on (3/17/2022, $695 SC Retention offer on (4/8/2022) so 22 days after AF posted was able to get RO.
Biz Gold opened on (3/10/22), AF posted (3/25/22), $250 SC Retention offer on (4/13/22) which is 19 days.
I had asked every week since card opened for Biz Plat and kept getting no offers. Almost gave up until I saw on reddit that quite a few people were getting RO on Biz Plats last week. Seems like they come out in batches. And just to confirm, I would be able to cancel the Biz plat on 4/9/23? And annual fee would post on 3/25/23, not 2/28/23 so I would get the AF refunded since I'm in 30 day window?

Platinum, 40K MR for $3K spend in three months, via chat. Card opened about 10 months ago and spent just under $20K to date, much of it airfare and last year's 10X groceries extravaganza. I didn't necessarily expect an offer this early, but have more airfare than usual coming up and gave it a shot.

Platinum, AF just posted chatted online and had a bit of back and forth. Offered 55000 MR points for $4000 spend in 3 months kept chatting got offered $550 credit spend $4000 in 3 months. Took the credit

Personal platinum. Couldn't get offers via chat as my account has some extra security/verification required due to prior fraud - so I called in. Was offered $550 credit for $4k spend right off the bat. Accepted. Cardholder for 10+ years. Last retention offer was about 15mo ago and was a mileage offer IIRC.
