*Equinox $25 Credit will not be issued for ANY products you buy online at their merchandise Shop which is coded as "Equinox The Shop". However, it appears that you can purchase Gift Cards straight off the site, but lowest denomination is $100. Gift cards can be used for merchandise and memberships.

Question about Clear

I assume the membership rebate of $179 is for one. What is cost out of pocket to add a spouse to the plan?

Thanks.

Your best bet is to sign up for a free DL account to get the 119$ pricing and add your spouse (which has increased to 60$). It’s probably no surprise the way that works out

The fact that the TSA hasn't caught a single terrorist in their entire existence is one good indicator. Also the body scanners don't look inside of you. Anything you can fit into a body cavity can make it through without issue.

Plus Clear is not actually capturing biometric data directly. The scanners do take measurements/data points but convert this into a cryptographic hash that can't be reassembled or duplicated. So while they have your data, it's a bunch of 1's and 0's that are effectively worthless to anyone, even their own employees.

$150 off previous Amex offer and $200 from Amex rebate already reimbursed from a rebooking I had made for this September for FHR.

One happy camper here, LOVE the changes

They get more users, albeit not very profitable users, but then more people in the regular lines see more people cutting the line, and hope to get them.
CLEAR has to be loving this. Between a big lump volume of business — across which to spread its costs — and the general tendency of subscription customers being easier to retain than acquire, CLEAR just saw an increase in its business lifespan by giving Amex a deal.

Maybe Amex will even buy out CLEAR.

They’ll have to hire a lot more people to escort people to the front of the line when the hordes of new customers show up at airports like SFO (where everyone seems to have a Plat card). Seems like a very labor intensive business model if it works as described on their website.

Does CLEAR always feed into the PreCheck station?

No, CLEAR is entirely separate from PreCheck. If you have both, they will escort you to the front of the PreCheck line, but if you don't, then you go to the front of the regular line.

Some airports do have separate CLEAR stations where one of them is dedicated to people who have both CLEAR+Pre, but either way if you don't already have Pre then having CLEAR won't let you use PreCheck.

I think Clear’s business lifespan was already looking much brighter in the past six months due to new relationships and venues, even the wonky covid test presentment and now going into the public markets just last week with a new IPO I think they are flush and fine till we get business travel back to close to historical amounts, in ~2023/2024

How about the Concierge and Travel Services?

I have had the Platinum Card since it came out. After reading through most of this thread it seems that most people are concerned about whether or not the credits justify the annual fee. I have other concerns.

One of the things that kept me on as a Platinum member was that I could rely on them when I needed reservations of different kinds. Over the past few years the quality of these services have decreased tremendously. One night last week, for example, there was a more than 90 minute wait for Travel and a message said to "call back later" and then disconnected me. The next day it was 60 minutes but they offered a call back. (That wouldn't work so well if you are at an airport in between flights.)

Also, a few weeks ago I wanted a reservation at a top restaurant. I called AMEX and was told I should give them my login and password for Resy (!) and they would do it for me. Whatever happened to them calling and getting you special treatment?

At the moment, I'll be thinking long and hard about renewing in a year.

(By the way, would someone please direct me to the proper forum for posting a question asking opinions on the various concierge services offered through different credit cards?)

Equinox benefit

So if you purchase $100 gift card on the website, will the $25 statement credit work, so you can sell the gift card online at raise.com at a price slightly below $100?

I dunno. I could see the TSA adopting a biometrics based approach for Pre, as their cousins are apparently now doing for Global Entry. I had my first GE experience in a year last week at DFW, and the GE kiosk just took a photo of me and then immediately printed the “Welcome to the US” slip. No more passport scanning, finger prints check, or answering questions. And then it’s once again clear that CLEAR just boils down to a skip-the-line pass for those willing to pay a private corporation some $$$.

I could also see pre travelers voice their frustration when more and more Clear travelers get sent to the front of the line. Long term CLEAR may just need dedicated checkpoints.

RE: Clear

Initially, I wasn't a big fan of the program since it didn't appear that much of an improvement over TSA pre; and, I'd agree with a poster above that private enterprises ought not be profiting over a gap created by Gov't action. With that aside, it's there, free and I've use it. It is faster and saves the trouble of having to fish out my DL/Passport, which is helpful.

Would I pay for it? Probably not.

Same. I've only been in a few situations where clear would have saved me a significant amount of time over regular Precheck.

My audible and nyt was reflected in the entertainment meter since yesterday. It's working great.

I've only called concierge once, hoping that they would have access to better seats at a concert. While I would have booked direct, Amex purchased through Stubhub, and scored me fraud tickets. I drove 3.5 hours to this concert for nothing, each way, venue sold out. I was able to get a refund and $50 credit, but it doesn't cover my time, gas, or hotel. Why would I rely on their help again?
