Referrals and self-referrals are an important part of churning Canadian-issued American Express cards. It is appropriate to discuss how the referral process works in this thread. However, please do not offer or request referrals here.

AMEX Platinum Rewards - $699/year, 60K MR (via referral) after $1000 spending in 3 months vs. 50K non-referral + earn 15K MR for each referral you make

I know things Amex reps say aren't as reliable as real data points but I just wanted to add what I gleaned from a conversation with an Amex rep today. They really seem to be all over the place on the referrals matter.
The rep told me that all referrals are fair game aside from those involving Personal Golds. So referring within the set of Biz Gold, Plat, and Biz Plat (from and to any of those three) will yield referral points, according to this rep.

3/28/16 - I referred a friend from my personal Platinum and they applied for a personal Gold. It was the new referral link. Instant approval.
3/29/16 - 25,000 bonus points applied to my account. The description of points were 'Bonus Points' not 'Referral Bonus'

AMEX is lightning fast! Applied on Friday for my self-referred Gold Rewards from my Platinum. Call came on Saturday to confirm additional security information and the 25K referral posted Sunday.
I received the card in the mail today, the first day with mail delivery after the long weekend. Shocked at how quick AMEX is these days!

As for delivery speeds, the Gold is normally delivered using courier, so 3-5 days is typical...yours was exceptional.

Biz Gold -> other AMEX MR card will give you the 10K referral points (better than nothing)
Unless you find some Plat to refer you for better value/offer
