Understood! Thanks!

What about medical cover?

So long as everything that can be paid via AMEX is paid on the AMEX then you should be covered....

Hmmm, that doesn´t make it very clear to me. I still don´t know if I will be covered if I only pay for the hotel. I might drop AMEX an email asking for what precisely is the prerequisite for being covered by their medical insurance during trips abroad.

Medical cover doesn't depend on use of the Platinum Amex. But it's worth checking this yourself on the Amex website, rather than relying on other FT'ers.

Oh, that´s great! I had been under the impression that this year´s changes to the T&Cs meant that all insurances depend on having paid with your AMEX also included the medical cover. But if that´s not the case than great! ^

No it's only the travel inconvenience/luggage type of stuff that needs to be paid for on the card. The start of the T&Cs lists which items require spend to be on the Card (and by 'Card' they mean any personal/small business AMEX card that is issued by AMEX themselves).

No probs. I keep a copy of it in my Dropbox anyway, so here are the relevant bits!
The following benefits are dependent on use of the Card:
• Cancelling, Postponing and Abandoning your Trip;
• Cutting Short Your Trip;
• Travel Inconvenience;
• Personal Belongings, Money and Travel Documents;
• Purchase Protection;
• Refund Protection;

Thanks for the list!

As for the personal belongings, money and travel documents my original question then still stands. What part of a trip do I have to pay for with my Amex card? The flight? The hotel? The car rental? ...?

Mind sharing a bit about your past AMEX cards? Did you have the platinum card before, if so, how long ago did you cancel, etc...

Thanks!

Only AMEX card I have is a MBNA Lufthansa/Miles & More card. Never had any other AMEX card in my life.
