Reminder: you must enroll and select Southwest as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase.
Some have suggested the need to wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase, but there are also several DPs that worked without waiting that long.

(BTW, you will often hear people refer to Southwest as WN. WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia.)

Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed.
To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.

What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.

Always read the last few pages to get up-to-date DPs.

Sorry for the delayed reply.
Just mentioned that my current purchases for Southwest related to Travel are not being reimbursed.
I contacted via chat since it quicker and no extra talks.
The rep confirmed the data and info and gave the credit

How long does it usually take to receive the e-gift card from Southwest? I ordered last night and have not received anything via email 12+ hours later. It does show as a pending charge on my Amex. Thoughts?

Usually 15 min for me. Have you checked your spam?

Spam wasn't the answer (had been checking that all morning).

Decided to email Southwest through their contact us feature and magically it arrived a few minutes later. Now keeping fingers crossed I get the credit applied properly by Amex.

I'm still in the bonus spend window for my new platinum card - $5k in 3 months. I assume the $200 purchase will not count towards minimum spend given that I will receive a credit, but I would be glad to be corrected by somebody if I'm wrong.
I've been told that it counts toward the MSR, but just to be safe i wouldn't rely on that if i were you.

Probing question... why not the full $200?
the reason why I dont use the full gc amount even for taxes on an award flight is because from what I have been told by Visa benefits if you charge a small amount you retain the baggage delay and trip delay benefits. Hoping this is not a ymmv situation

Just switching from AA to SWA due to GC change, so forgive the naiveté.
Your $250 airline credit works when purchasing tickets during a flash sale? Do they charge in a different category? I don't have Platinum, I have Aspire, curious about the DP.

I've seen DPs elsewhere that SW flights under $100 for some reason trigger the airline fee credit. Don't see any differences in coding compared to flights more than $100 so not sure why.

Figured I give it a shot and it worked.
