Reminder: you must enroll and select UA as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase (this includes MPX). Click HERE.

Caution: As of December 2016, it appears that American Express no longer reimburses MPX transactions.

Credits generally appear 3-4 days after making the transaction. No need to worry unless they don't appear after a week.

TravelBank
funds can only be used on United and United Express flights. Partner flights are not eligible.

Gift Registry and Gift Cards

The consensus is that United gift registry contributions will be reimbursed and gift card purchases will not. So
  1. Log into united.com
  2. Set up a gift registry for yourself
  3. Use the link in your gift registry web page to send an announcement to your email address. This better, faster, and more reliable than searching for your gift registry, especially if you have a common name. Even someone with an unusual surname like mre5765 has could not find his registry after creating it.
  4. Log out of united.com
  5. Follow the Make Contribution in your gift registry email
  6. Contribute using your Amex platinum card

There seems to be no downside to contributing in sub-200 dollar chunks since the gift registry creates a single pool of cash. However there are lots of reports of successful fee credits from a single $200 donation. Whether done as on $200 transaction or eight $25 transactions, the result is that one will have $200 in ones TravelBank.

PLEASE NOTE: When you establish a gift registry for the first time, it will take 24 hours before the funds in the registry are available to use toward payment of a flight.

Do I have to join the united.com Club ($25 annual fee) to use my TravelBank?

Apparently not.

Does spending TravelBank credit count towards PQD?

Yes-for revenue flights only
Airline Taxes on Award Tickets
Doesn't seem to work anymore; see post 179 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25297196-post179.html and #391
MPX (MileagePlus X)
It appears that this is no longer working. See this post: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/27589581-post1496.html.
Economy Plus fees
There are recent reports of this working on a per ticket basis. No recent report of an Economy Plus annual subscription being reimbursed.

So, is MPX reliable in terms of getting $100/$200 airline fee reimbursed? it seems like there have been a lot of cases where the fees were not reimbursed.

Worked for me. Bought a $200 Amazon GC through MPX on Saturday, Oct. 17 (within an hour of selecting United as my airline for the incidental fee reimbursements), $200 reimbursed five days later.

What I wonder is how long this will last: Is MPX likely to be like the airline-GC loophole that has worked for years?

Seems to be taking 5 business days now.

Lots of whining in this thread from 1 post members.

I'm sure the MPX loophole will come to an end eventually.

Buying a straight up gift card actually does work; I've been reimbursed for those. I like the gift registry better, because you can only use one gift card per reservation, which can make them tough to use if you have a bunch of $50 ones. Also you have to keep track of the damn things, which can be annoying.

I got reimbursed for all MPX gift cards. First one took couple days, 2nd one took about a week.

Thanks for all your help.

bought $85 Staples gift card via MXP app and got the credit today. Please note that only today, from what i can see, it says on the original transaction that it's United. All it had said until now was just airline and the MXP name, but just now it says United.

How to check how much of $200 remaining?

Is there a place to check on the amex site how much of the $200 credit remaining?

(other than manually adding up the reimbursement transaction history)

I had AA as my preferred airline but haven't used it this year so i called amex and asked them to change me to UA. They said it's ok as i haven't used any AA credits.

However, an authorized user on my card had made charges with AA, which I thought wouldn't be reimbursed anyway.

To my surprise, after my preferred airline was already switched to UA, i received the AA reimbursements, despite not being charged to the primary card.

Do you guys think that i have a full $200 available with UA, or would it know that I 'used' $50 via the AA reimbursement? I don't want to charge more than would be reimbursed, if i don't have to, so i am hoping to be able to check this without calling in, of course

Only option on the website is to add it up manually after filtering for credits, which obviously doesn't answer your question. They can tell you over the phone in just a few seconds, but I understand your hesitation to call in given the situation. Good luck.
