I just called Meeting Services and asked to change BX2A award tickets I booked in June.
I thought I had to pay change fee, but the agent didn't charge the fee.
Is that a new rule?

Jan 1 changes question

The only thing I forgot to ask them on a recent call if regarding the 3 unique traveling employees. I see online I show two including myself and met the spend of $5k over last twelve months. My third one has a flight late Dec and early Jan. The other employee that’s just flown doesn’t have anything booked in 2023 so after Jan 3 I’ll have 2 employees that have flown. Does this mean I will be ineligible to redeem in 2023 until my third employee flies? Due to changes kicking in for me Jan 1 I’m thinking yes but keep getting different answers from Biz xtra.

also, does anyone know if it’s the purchase date or day of flying of the employees that determines eligibility?

Purchase date has never mattered for anything, it's the date of the flight that counts.

Date of flying.

I'm way over the $5K, as two of us fly frequently. All I have to keep track of is the latest day of flying of one of the two infrequent flyers. I can redeem as long as one of them has flown within the last 12 months.

I'm likely going to be short for the $5K spending on January 1st. I've seen talk of a counter that lists the unique travelers and amount spent, where exactly is that? I think I've looked at every bit of the website and I'm not seeing it listed at all.

Seeing that should also answer my question regarding if spending in January 2022 will count when looking at redeeming in 2023.

Thats interesting because their agent told me the rolling 12 mo spend total is when purchased, not flown. I even confirmed with him again because I didn’t believe it.

After logging in click Redeem(upper right area) then Redeem Points and you’ll see this:

anyone yet had AA explain how long that speedometer on spending will last if we're currently over $5k? like how can we see what the 12 month running total will be for january before dec 31?
Id hate to wait till jan 15 and suddenly dip under the 5k and cant redeem for awhile,

Thank you for this!
can you redeem points just now (till Dec-31-2022) if you did not satisfy either the 5K or the 3Pax?

That's nonsense and just an agent getting words mixed up or having no idea what they're talking about.

Other than for ticket validity purposes, the date of purchase has no bearing on anything, be it with Business Extra or AAdvantage. Business Extra doesn't know that you've spent $X until you take the flight and the flight credits to your account. The date you buy the ticket is irrelevant.

Otherwise anyone could buy a ticket today for some date in the future, get credit for it, then cancel it.

as I understand it yes. Then you have a year to apply the certs before they expire. You can redeposit and get another year on the points(I think until the next year end so almost two years potentiality, I think, others can confirm). But if you haven’t met qualifications they will be held hostage till you do or they expire.

So if you don’t think you’ll qualify in time you can redeem for certs you’ll use and or turn into miles.

Im sure you are correct but pointing out info from the agents shouldn’t be taken as correct….they are easy to get on the phone typical, maybe a hang up and call back with questions until you get someone that seems to know what they are talking about. The one that said that struck me as a relatively new hire.

To my eye, this condition was inserted specifically to exclude BA (or IB, AY, CX etc. etc.) metal flights, even when they carry an AA flight number.

This explains why my recent JetBlue flight on an AA codeshare, with AA ticket stock #001, didn't get BE points. Lesson learned. I still would have flown it, as it was the only nonstop option on the route that still earned my LPs and redeemable award miles.
