I applied my SWUs to this and it’s waitlisted. What are the chances that they’ll actually clear into J? Slim to none? I’m EXP and my friend has no status

Also, I noticed that since applying the SWUs, I’m no longer getting paid upgrade offers via the app, is that a consequence of being waitlisted for SWU?

For reference, there is no one on the waitlist for tonight's LAX-JFK redeye. There are also 3 seats open, according to the app.

Upgrade for Basic Economy Tickets

Are Basic Economy tickets still eligible for elite status complimentary upgrades? Here is what it says on the website about Basic Economy tickets.

I have a Basic Economy ticket on hold, and in the app it indicates an upgrade is not offered. Here is the app displaying the upgrade status for a Basic Economy ticket and a normal Economy ticket.

With that itin and another short DCA hop for MAL this weekend I will clear the 200,000LP hurdle by the skin of my teeth. Phew... my u/g ratio since making EXP in fall 2021 has been about 90%. Yeah I know, call Ripley's Believe it or Not... I'll take it. EXP benefits are not to be sniffed at.

what are the main routes you are flying to get such a consistent upgrade? I assume this is Y to J?

Thanks!

Those flights are still weeks away. People book flights then change or cancel then change again all the time, for hub to hub flights like that especially it's not uncommon at all see availability up front fluctuate.

Appreciate the feedback. The seats increased again today so you’re probably right. Hoping the 100 window is kind. 😁

I needed to book a trip from DFW to LAX this coming Wednesday the 11th. I was looking a couple of months ago, and a 30 minute connection in ABQ was only $5 more than the non-stop. I thought that I had almost no chance of being upgraded as a platinum Pro on a non-stop, so I booked the connection in albuquerque. I'll never know if I would have gotten an upgrade on the non-stop, and it looks like upgrades are a little easier to get here in January than they were at busier times. However, my decision to book the connection definitely paid off. I was upgraded at the 72-hour window on both DFW-ABQ (737-800) and ABQ-LAX (E175).

Plat Pro ~130k LP.

As an ABQ flyer, these flights are virtually a lock for Plat and above upgrades (and I'm on the same flight Weds to LA :) )

I am OKC based, so I only occasionally have to begin or end in DFW.

I fly OKC-PHX and OKC-LAX primarily when I head West, and I have had about a 80% upgrade success as a Plat and plat Pro.

The handful of times I have not gotten the upgrade, AA was offering crazy cheap ~$125 upgrades on the app, and I was the first or second loser. I am around 30% upgrade success on any flight to or from DFW.

Sounds like it's good to be an ABQ based elite with AA. Let's hope our flight is on time. I have a ton of work all over California, and the weather might not cooperate. We will see. Arriving Wednesday is much preferable to today or tomorrow.

Domestic Y to F.

I'm always ex-ATL so guessing there aren't a lot of EXPs there. No consistent routes. This week it's EWR. Next trip is CVG or SDF.

EXP and have re-qualified with 255k LP. Today was brutal; I was 9 of 53 for DFW-PHX on an award ticket and nobody cleared.

So, I didn't make the flight to due to the FAA issue. I'll be in main cabin extra on a Non-Stop flight, though, and it looks like I'm only going to be about 40 minutes behind schedule. I did my best to game the system for my upgrades, but the system won again.

I was wondering what you did when i noticed 928 was an hour-plus late. Glad it sort of worked out as it could have been much worse today.

EXP with 217k LPs:

1/14/23 - CMH-PHX, still waiting
1/14/23 - PHX-SEA, upgraded T-100

I agree that worked out well considering the situation. I'm only going to arrive about an hour later than planned. I scored an empty middle seat, so it was a nice flight.

This is likely an app/website glitch. You are definitely eligible for the upgrade. A few weeks ago my Gold son traveling DUB-PHL-AUS-PHL-DUB on a BE ticket got a complimentary upgrade on PHL-AUS and SWU upgrades on AUS-PHL and PHL-DUB. When I looked at his reservation on the app before the trip there was no option to view the upgrade status.

PRO with 129k LPs

Doing a cheap segment run this weekend to hit the 30 for an SWU before the qualification year is out:

DCA-PHL: Confirmed T-72
PHL-CLT: Confirmed T-72
CLT-BNA: Pending (Per EF, its 7J & I'm the only one sitting in MCE so not sure why it hasn't cleared/will be amazed if it doesn't)
BNA-DCA: Confirmed T-72

Greta Thunberg won't thank me for it, but whatever.
