Looking to get to Europe in July, and there's no C avail to CDG or LHR in early July. Would you take your chances for waitlist at LAX direct or waitlist via JFK?

Trying to upgrade DFW-NRT in December but I'm seeing no C availability even with flexible dates. Is it worth waiting to see if AA releases any seats for upgrade? If I am not going to be able to upgrade, I may just go JL direct to HND from ORD instead of connecting.

If you have EF, I’d set up alerts across different flights / routings as space may randomly open up. Last point - JL sometimes makes really good award space available at the partner rates for J and F. I’ve regularly seen the direct Boston flight pop up at 70k and the JFK flights 110k in F. |

If there is any space, it will probably be released close in. If it’s a 788 or 789, you could see most seats actually get sold.

Regarding JL, unfortunately they don't partner with Chase or Amex for points transfers. I see you can transfer Bonvoy at 3:1 so that might be an option given how much availability they seem to have, but not sure it would be worth it all things considered. I'd love to fly direct from ORD though. |

Quick datapoint on the SFO-JFK redeye (AA276). I wasn't expecting much with only 19k loyalty points but cleared into J right at the 72 hour window. Can't remember the last time an upgrade cleared that early, let alone on a route like this.
On a related note, is it worth checking out the new SFO Admirals club? Or should I just stick to the Air France lounge via PP. |
Just flew BOS-JFK-MIA-MCO-DCA-BOS as a PlatPro. Was among the top 4 in every list and cleared on every leg-was not expecting that so got to enjoy some nice lie flat domestic legs
BOS-JFK on A321T cleared onboard. 1st on list JFK-MIA on 772 cleared onboard after someone deplaned due to delay. Couple declined MIA-MCO cleared 3 days out MCO-DCA cleared at boarding DCA-BOS cleared on board. I believe a couple declined/changed flights |

Adding my experience on 4/1 on JFK-MIA on a 777 with Flagship Business. In the recent past I've been clearing this at T-48, since it's so J heavy. However the buy up offer on app was only $161 and likely enticing for many.
At T-24 there were only J2 seats visible on seatmap. On the upgrade list me and my non-elite companion were #6 and #7 out of maybe 15 or so. At T-40, #1 and #4 cleared. #2-3 were same name so likely linked and didn't clear for the one remaining seat. Once on board, #5 was moved up by gate agent just before the door closed. Then we had a 3 hr delay on tarmac (if you followed this weekend's Florida shenanigans) before returning to gate, where a handful deplaned, including 1 J passenger. 30 mins later we're ready to go and the gate agent appeared to upgrade one of either me and my non-elite companion. I still don't know why the couple/family in #2-3 weren't upgraded at any point, unless the GA asked and they didn't want to split up. My companion enjoyed a nice 3 hours in J. |
EXP w/125k LP’s
PHX-OGG 789 20 seats open, 3 upgraded at t-100 including myself OGG-PHX 789 10 seats open, 4 upgraded at t-98, wasn’t upgraded. #1 on list at gate, fell to #3, #1 upgraded from a no-show |
Cleared LBB-DFW and then DFW-LBB on 04/09 as gold t-24. Not a huge surprise on a Saturday from a regional airport.

Heading to Dublin from lax May 2 ( lax to lhr then lhr to Dublin) my friend just called and applied his 4 swu’s for our round trip flight and it’s on ‘Requested’ status so hopefully it clears 🤞🤞🤞

Got it. Unfortunately, it's work travel so I can get reimbursed the Y fare if it's cash, which is why I'm looking to upgrade. Didn't OneWorld promise that partner flight upgrades were coming a year ago?
