American Airlines announced a new “strategic partnership” including codesharing on some routes in July 2020. In January 2021, several other enhancements to this partnership were announced, including:

As of Jan 31st, 2022 - Benefits typically do not show up when managing the booking and will show up when checking in online.
To receive elite benefits add your AAdvantage number at time of purchase, or contact JetBlue customer service to add it after purchase.
JetBlue Basic: AA elites still get free seat selection and a free bag on Blue Basic fares. All passengers are allowed to bring on board a personal item that fits under the seat. However you do not get to bring a free full size carry-on with Blue Basic except when you select an Even More Space seat.
AA Loyalty Points can take a week to post.

American will upgauge aircraft and by the end of 2021 will operate all service out of New York with first class. Starting in the first half of 2021, JetBlue and American schedules in New York and Boston will begin to be aligned to give customers new flight options, with improved schedules, better connections, competitive fares and access to more domestic and international destinations. - Expanded service in the Northeast
As part of the alliance, JetBlue plans to significantly expand its service at New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA), as well as further expand in other NYC airports and in Boston. The alliance will also allow JetBlue to reactivate aircraft that would otherwise sit idle. An expanded operation at LaGuardia further advances JetBlue’s position as New York’s Hometown Airline® and accelerates the airline’s ability to recover.
As previously announced, American is introducing brand new service on from New York (JFK) to Tel Aviv (TLV) and Athens (ATH). American’s loyal customers in New York will be introduced to their first long-haul international service in more than four years, with even more new routes on the way. - Codeshare agreement
Starting later this quarter, JetBlue will place its B6 code on a variety of American flights in New York and Boston. Likewise, American will place its AA code on select JetBlue flights also in at New York’s John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark Liberty International (EWR) airports, as well as Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). Flights touching New York or Boston from either JetBlue, American or connecting combinations of both will be bookable on jetblue.com and aa.com in the coming weeks. The codeshare will introduce JetBlue customers to more than 60 new routes operated by American and will introduce American’s customers to more than 130 new routes operated by JetBlue. - Reciprocal loyalty benefits
Later this year, customers of both JetBlue’s TrueBlue and American’s AAdvantage® programs will be able to enjoy reciprocal benefits, including the ability to earn and/or redeem points or miles on either carrier making both loyalty program even more valuable. The airlines are also exploring opportunities to recognize JetBlue Mosaic customers and American’s AAdvantage elite members across both airlines. Will B6 maybe move some of their mint flight to T8 for Flagship Lounge? Or will B6 build its own lounge? If AA/B6 really want to collaborate on the PREMIUM transcon market, I would expect the same lounge access rule/standard. AS, on the other hand, can be the "prem econ like" First class product with lower fares.
With AS/BA moving into T8 and (hopefully) a consolidation with Mint service, maybe it's time to rethink building the whole Terminal 8.

Part of the JFK redevelopment plan has B6 demolishing T7 then expanding it's terminal over the former T6 and T7 footprint. The expansion will include 12 international gates. Some sort of physical connection over the expressway to T8 would be difficult and long but it is possible.

Given this, if any B6 flights move to T8, it'll only be temporary.
It also means that UA would have a hard time finding gates should they decide to return.

Disagree. UA offers nothing to the premium transcon passenger that AA doesn’t with the sole exception that they use the 757 while AA uses the A321. Outside of that, AA offers F, they offer the exact same seat in J but with a better soft product, and they offer better lounges, at least on the JFK side than UA ever has. Beyond that, UA offers even fewer connections ex-JFK than AA does.
I feel like UA competition was about the last thing that drove this decision.

I’m rooting for AA to make this work, for what it’s worth. A desperate move maybe, but then again all global airlines are making desperate moves to survive, and this move by AA could still net it very real material benefits. Only time will tell.

I wonder to what extent the announcement of all of these realignments, growth plans, partnerships—not the actual plans themselves, but the announcement timings—when it comes to closing the LAX Asia hub, doubling down on SEA and even moving PVG to there, the partnership with B6 and commitments to start TLV and ATH from there as well as vague unspecified growth to Europe, India, and Africa, are timed to inoculate AA against the more existential threats from what might be a disastrous earnings call in 6 days.

From EWR, on some flights, for now while these aircraft aren’t being widely used internationally, yes. However there’s nothing to indicate this would be the case to JFK when things return to normal and if UA even returns.

AA and United the worst airline for USA and International travel
I would have preferred that JetBlue partnered with Delta. Imagine the misery of connecting from a comfortable JetBlue flight to a miserable and cramped AA flight. I do not fly AA internationally for the past 8 years, because they are substandard compared to their international carriers.

Lots of twists and turns before this is approved. Make no mistake, neither DOJ nor DOT will shoot down this deal, but there may well be adjustments, particularly to assure that routes are serviced. LGA & DCA will also have slot issues which are sorted at DOT and may become part of a DOJ approval.

And, once the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has ended, the new partnership is certain to facilitate American adding new long-haul markets in Europe, Africa, India and South America.
