What about AA's operations or financial performance these days leads you to believe they would somehow be perfect (or even decent) at this thing in particular?

Concur still shows us BE, but were allowed to spend $100 beyond it each way before it gets flagged...
wow. work makes you fly BE? and only $100 over BE is the limit...that's terrible.

I was once in Vegas and hadn't booked my flight home. Last-minute fares (to PHL) were around $600, however there was one flight (a redeye) with a BE price of $97. So I bought BE and paid $80 for MCE. The other BE's were very close to the MC price.

They are just matching NK/F9 fares (who compete non-stop) with BE fares and are trying to extract a large premium from FF members who won't or can't (due to corporate policy) purchase BE fares and are loyal to AA due to captive hub non-stops. While they no longer have walk-up BE fares on this route, there are still 3-day advance BE fares on this route with huge difference from MC fares available with less than 7-day advance. Whenever you see these large differentials, just check who else flies the route non-stop and in pretty much every case there will be an LCC/ULCC on it.

I dunno. They don't 'make' me do anything.
3 years ago, BE was simply called a middle coach seat that you couldn't get out of. It's not some kind of draconian punishment.
$100 is usually way more then needed to get me out of BE. Usually it's $30 additional to get a reg coach fare.
Again, the problem is the BE fare is occasionally way higher then the typical price for the market. I mean like $400 for a CLT-MIA one-way walk-up.
That price is fine but it shouldn't be stripped of amenities.

When AA initially added BE, I remember seeing some huge price differences between BE and the lowest non-BE economy fare bucket. This seemed to be related to price marching for the true LCCs. In particular, I remember seeing $79 for ORD-PDX, matching the Spirit fare, while last minute coach was otherwise >$400 one way.

Last week I booked LAX-IAH stopping in PHX for 3.5 hours departing tomorrow morning, which worked perfectly for me... $90 BE, $610 economy... So $112 later I'm a happy camper (I paid for a seat upgrade on the 321)
