When AA initially added BE, I remember seeing some huge price differences between BE and the lowest non-BE economy fare bucket. This seemed to be related to price marching for the true LCCs. In particular, I remember seeing $79 for ORD-PDX, matching the Spirit fare, while last minute coach was otherwise >$400 one way.
