Related to schedule change, I had schedule changes occurring this weekend on 2 flights departing in Aug 2016. No notifications from AA.
However, my company travel reservation system advised me of such changes. I was able to get better connections for both trips by calling the EXP desk.

Remember: always check your future itineraries for changes on Sunday/Monday every week, don't wait for AA to notify.

We had a schedule change on Aug 23 return from Europe. Our original flight was from LHR-LAX then connecting to PHX.
There have been a number of changes that I have experienced for PHX-LAX & LAX-PHX recently. For our return on Aug 23rd, AA cancelled all flights from LAX-PHX on Tuesday after 4:25PM, so our reservation now shows returning LAX-PHX the next morning. I'll have to call to reroute.
The bad part is when I go into the reservation on AA.com, it does not even give the warning that a change has been made as I have seen on many of my other reservations.
We make reservations 9+ months out all the time, we have learned that we have to "feed and water" all of our reservations and not rely on AA to notify of any changes.

You know, I don't recall getting notified of a schedule change on AA in a long time. Maybe they've stopped doing that, with all the available automation. We recently traveled to Europe and they switched from a 2-5-2 version of the 777 to the dreaded 3-4-3. We had been in the 2 part. Oh, well.
With the addition of American's new aircraft the equipment changes are more frequent. I still miss the 2 side of the Mad Dog, too.

I did OLCI for my 80+ year old Mom & her 80+ year old friend, both wheelchair assistance types and both non-tech-savvy, early one morning. That afternoon they went to an off-site airport to spend the night as the flight was very early next day. Having done OLCI, I ceased to continue to check the flight (lesson learned about that). When they got to the airport the next morning, they learned the flight had been cancelled the night before (not weather related though no real explanation was proffered). AA had called my mother's house that night and left a message, but of course they weren't there to get it because they were at the airport hotel. I had put MY e-mail address in for notifications & I was never notified. The cancellation came too late for avoiding the hotel stay, but at least they could have stayed comfortably at the hotel instead of sitting at the airport for 10+ hours until the rescheduled flight if AA had only used the e-mail address on file.

While I sympathize with the OP, it is time for me to make my annual explanation. As a part of schedule changes, a "repair" algorithm is run to fix itineraries which are no longer valid. This includes both flights and seats. Unfortunately, these algorithms do the best they can but are not perfect by any means.
The key is to check reservations frequently and be proactive in managing your reservations. While it would be nice to be notified every time that seats and/or flights change, it just doesn't happen. The best thing is to check reservations monthly until 90 days out and then check them weekly.

After seeing this I checked my Award tickets for September (vacation) and sure enough they had changed the flights to ones that would not work, and NO notification!
I called the EXP desk and changed them to flights that would work, but still about 3 extra hours of travel/layover time that did not exist before.
It's not the changing, we all realize it happens, its the NO notification whatsoever!

As one who frequently books discounted premium cabin fares, I book early as often as possible. My schedules are frequently changed, and I have literally never been notified out of MDE.
I checked last night on my Christmas/New Year award trip, and it had me changed to a 30 minute connection outbound. That's 30 minutes to go through immigration and customs, find my gate and depart at MIA. I don't think my bags have ever arrived on the carousel within 30 minutes there.
There is a silver lining to this particular story, as I had two connections going to DFW, and it's now one. That's not always the case, however. The agent says that I should "always receive an email regarding a change." "Never" replaces "always" for me, but I get text messages about gate changes and artificial flight delays all the time during travel. There is also a flurry of voicemails waiting on my office phone when I return that informed me about what I was experiencing real time.
Something is definitely wrong with the system.

Interestingly enough, after following this thread for a bit, I did get an emailed flight # change notification last night.
It has the old (pre 2013) wordmark logo and an old livery'd plane in the header image... The lack of a new graphics package for this might be another clue as to how low of a priority this is for AA.

I have awardwallet, and store my reservations there. AA had a recent schedule update this past weekend that resulted on 2 of my trips having some significant changes, the biggest one a 777 ORD-DFW is now a MD80, and a LAX-MIA in layflat 767 is now 738 along with schedule changes. There has not been an email warning from AA at all, aside from the one yesterday about changes to AAdvantage, however, I did get notifications from AW on this and I've already contacted AA to make proper changes. One thing I've learn over the years is that you need to be proactive with your reservations, do not leave it to faith or others. Hence my AW account to keep track of notifications, and also expert flyer to alert me on aircraft changes.
