Flew AA275 MIA-LAX today, 14/5/16 and upgrades were widely available.
Cleared the flight using 500UPG 2 days out as a PLAT and there was wide availability of seats to choose when I was upgraded.

Also, on day of flight, all people on the upgrade list cleared. The upgrade list was empty .

What has higher priority in the upgrade process.
EXP using complimentary upgrade (120hrs out) or PLAT using Miles + Co-Pay?

At 120 hours out those two people are on separate lists. One for comp/sticker upgrades and one for miles/swu upgrades.

Each of those lists is sorted by date requested and status.

If the fare bucket for one of those lists becomes available then the computer will ugrade from that list, in order.

At the airport those lists merge and the EXP is first.

EXP two weeks ago, Friday daytime JFK-LAX cleared 3-4 hours prior to departure (ticket purchased 6+ weeks prior), and Tuesday redeye LAX-JFK cleared 3-4 hours prior to departure.

100% upgrade rate to ATL, DFW, ORD this year.

Looked at EXP husband to date percentage for UDU's since Jan 1, 2016 today while updating the spreadsheet for some upcoming flights.

Segment upgrade percentage- 63.16%
Butt in seat miles upgrade percentage- 52.8%

BIS is lower as longer segments seem less likely to be upgraded.

I'm really having a hard time warming up to A319s. I was 0 for 3 on upgrades a couple of weeks ago. I think 2 of them were LUS: AA1661 from RSW to PHL N722US and AA1007 from MIA to GCM. Another one was AA2297 from GCM to MIA N9004F. It seemed to have some kind of older seat.
On a happier note I got one upgrade on a newer 767 with flatbed seats from PHL to MIA.
But in the future I may have to avoid these 319s with their tiny F sections.

And they're not that great even when the upgrade clears. Row 2 is very uncomfortable.

When using the 25K Miles + $350 each way for a TATL trip upgrade, do the fliers earn EQM's based on the original economy class purchase?

Looking to upgrade myself while traveling with others on the same reservation (party of four).

Keeping everyone together on the same PNR is of the highest importance, so I don't want to split myself off to request an upgrade a few weeks out (especially because it's a very easy upgrade).

If I ask to be added to the upgrade list at the gate and am granted the upgrade, will it split me from the reservation if my request is processed? If so, I won't bother.

There is no way to upgrade just one person without splitting it.

But why the concern? We fly on separate PNR's all the time and it has never been an issue. Even in IRROPS we've always been accommodated together.
