General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

There is no need to leave the secure area to move from one concourse to another. *Exceptions are arriving international flights. In such case one must normally clear immigration and customs, reclaim bags and proceed through security.

Terminal Link's blue and greens vans arrive every 10 minutes and will transfer you between all terminals once outside of security.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.

During Off Schedule Operations / Irregular Operations, cots with blankets and pillows are available for affected passengers.

I'm flying AMS->DFW->LAS on 24/12 with a 1hr 50 connection time... which all sounds great, apart from the fact that the AMS->DFW flights started last Friday and every single one has been late so far.
This is our first time transiting DFW - as we're arriving internationally, we'll have to clear customs and recheck our bags, yes? Our ticket is all on one so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not?
After doing a bit of digging, our international flight will arrive at Terminal D and it looks likely that our flight to LAS will leave from Terminal C.... what are peoples thoughts on minimum transfer times? Any advice welcome please!!

There are almost no seats left Dfw- lax showing at all for Tuesday.

If they don't hold the plane that's a mis-connect. It's 3 stops away on the SkyLink and woth the door closing at T-10 your best hope is for you to arrive early or your connecting flight to get delayed.

Our delay was due to a medical emergency when this aircraft was inbound to DFW on its flight prior to its flight to DTW to do the turn back to DFW. I’m not sure if that’s far enough in the past that it’s considered in their control or not, but I’m guessing I’m on my own for hotel.
(and we have stiff headwinds, so early isn’t likely)

I admittedly don't know if medical is considered a carrier issue or something beyond their control but I'm leaning towards the latter. In my only experiece with a medical emergency, WN held everyones connecting flights because of the medical.

Your flight to LAX has been delayed till 10:50 PM. That gives you an extra 15 minutes to make that connection.

They ended up holding the flight for 18 people across multiple flights. We were pulling past A14 when a 15 minute delay popped up. I was checking EF all through the flight and I don’t think there were 18 seats available across all airlines.

The bag ended up missing the connection, but I'll just pick it up on my way through LAX tomorrow and take it with me. Most of what's in it was going to come on tomorrow's trip, too, and wasn't critical for me to have before then. Almost makes it easier, actually.

Present gate is shown as C24.
Then departing on another AA domestic flight from gate A11 with 42 mins between flights (probably longer if the arrival time is padded and things work out well).
No luggage, so I won't be dragging anything with me, and I assume I will remain airside so no further security checks.
Assuming those gates hold, what's quicker / easiest?
15-20 min walk, or the Skytrain?
Present gate is shown as C24.
