General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

There is no need to leave the secure area to move from one concourse to another. *Exceptions are arriving international flights. In such case one must normally clear immigration and customs, reclaim bags and proceed through security.

Terminal Link's blue and greens vans arrive every 10 minutes and will transfer you between all terminals once outside of security.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.
Departing Passengers: Before your departing flight, please return your vehicle at the Rental Car Center. For transportation from the facility to your terminal, board the Rental Car Shuttle. The Rental Car Shuttle runs 24 hours a day and departs every five minutes from the facility.

During Off Schedule Operations / Irregular Operations, cots with blankets and pillows are available for affected passengers.
During OSO / IROPS, AA will generally not offer hotel and meal vouchers for disruptions from causes not directly under the airline's control (such as weather). You may be able to at least get "distressed traveler" certificates for lower rates from AA, or you may be able to request distressed traveler rates from reservations center's or properties.

The earliest checkpoints in A open at 4:00
Terminal A
A12 4:00 AM - 8:00 PM
A21 4:00 AM - 9:30 PM
One of the checkpoints in Terminal C is 24 hours and all others don't open until 4:30a or later.
Terminal C
C10 4:30 AM - 7:00 PM
C20 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM (open 24 hours)
C30 4:30 AM - 7:00 PM
Check your departure gate the morning of and then choose whatever checkpoint is closes/most convenient. I wouldn't expect many people at that hour on Thanksgiving Day.
EDIT: Gate assignments are always subject to change but the 5:00a AA575 to CLT has left from C30, C28, C24 and C22 over the last 4 days so I'd say Terminal C s a pretty good bet.

The early morning flights to CLT almost always leave out of middle-C. For lounge convenience, I would assume.
One thing to note about the C20 checkpoint at that hour is that a lot of terminal employees seem to use it and that slows down the travelers that are in line. As noted, there probably won't be many travelers, but be aware of the employee situation. The C30 checkpoint may be smoother if you're leaving from that end, but I've never used it.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like C20 will be the only option as I will stay at DFW Marriott and leave my car there due to expected crowd in terminal garage and also I may have to take landside shuttle on the return anyway. So I will just take hotel shuttle around 3:30AM and check my bag at C. Also is there any non pre check priority line at C20 checkpoint?

There is a non-Pre priority line at C20, but that's what the aforementioned employees use. I'd still use it though. IME, there's only one ID checker at that hour, so there's not a lot of options that will make a dent.

Or, maybe a MadDog? Was A7 ever a mainline gate, or was it always beAAgle?
(ETA: OAG says 5 and up were mainline in 1991. I knew that they parked Saabs in the alley, but I thought they parked some along the terminal, too. I guess not. I only had to do the bus thing once, so my memory is a little foggy.)

Here is my actual experience on Thanksgiving day. I arrived at terminal C around 3:10AM, there was a short line at the priority check in, I have to wait for approximately 5 minutes. Then for the security there is only a single line open, no pre check and non pre check priority line available at C20 checkpoint. I spent 10 minutes going through security. 5AM flight to CLT on thanksgiving day was completely full, however as EXP my upgrade was able to clear at T-100.

I'm flying AMS->DFW->LAS on 24/12 with a 1hr 50 connection time... which all sounds great, apart from the fact that the AMS->DFW flights started last Friday and every single one has been late so far.
This is our first time transiting DFW - as we're arriving internationally, we'll have to clear customs and recheck our bags, yes? Our ticket is all on one so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not?
After doing a bit of digging, our international flight will arrive at Terminal D and it looks likely that our flight to LAS will leave from Terminal C.... what are peoples thoughts on minimum transfer times? Any advice welcome please!!
