The last US Airways flight was numbered US1939 to commemorate the operational start year of All American Aviation, the company that preceded Allegheny and US Airways.
To celebrate the end of the US Airways name, US1939 was given as the flight number to PHL-CLT (10:05 AM), CLT-PHX (2:35 PM), PHX-SFO (5:10 PM) and SFO-PHL (9:55 PM). Events were be held at all four stops, which include major hubs. Details as reported by the OMAAT blog (http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.c...irways-flight/).
I for one will be on the PHX-SFO leg. I'll try to say hello to those of you strong enough to do the redeye!

When they announced the routing I tried to work out a way to be on the PHX - SFO, but alas my work schedule interfered.
So instead I've been listening on liveatc - leaving PHX they gave them rwy 8 for easier media coverage.
On the ground and takeoff from SFO the pilot used 'All American 1939' as the callsign (the tower was hit and miss lol - I think they were a little confused), and the NORCAL departure controller bade them good evening as 'US Air 1939' for the handoff to Oakland center.
That last bit brought a tear to my eye - US has been a huge part of my travels - my family using them for vacations growing up, and then I went to school in Charlotte, and then relocated to Phoenix last year for work.

We're pretty much over being insulted by US and it's predecessors/successors. It's been going on for a long time.

“It's the final insult,” former Allegheny County Executive Jim Roddey said of Pittsburgh being passed over by US Airways' last flight.
“Considering all the money we spent for them, you'd think they would stop for 30 minutes to say ‘hello,' ” Roddey said.

I was tracking the flight as it left SFO until I went to bed as it was over SLC when I decided to go to sleep and woke up and saw this morning even though it departed late it was only one minute late when it landed in PHL this morning. Was anybody listening to ATC as to what the final words communicated with Cactus 1939 were? Was there anyone aboard the plane that could share with us what was said from the cockpit and FA's?

The final transmission with ATC is 21 minutes into this archived recording. Pilots used "USAir1939" which was last used in 2008. Farewell.
