In fact, I have been upgraded as late as while sitting in my seat after everyone else has boarded / just moments before they shut the door.

At least the GA's are making the effort to do this. Good to hear.

4Hr Upgrade list on AA App.

Did this disappear with the new app upgrade ?

Upgrade while seated in coach is pretty standard on JFK - LAX/SFO route

The 4-hour upgrade list is still on the app--you can even see it for flights you're not on.

Interesting, how's that? Hope AA's taken safeguards against scripting/scraping.

yesterday, I was upgraded T-5 even though there was only 1 J seat left after my upgrade and that remaining one was released prior to arriving at gate. So I don't know if upgrade while seated is standard.

Since this is discussed upthread, I figured this is as good of a place to post this as anywhere else...

2 pax on my flt told me they paid to upgrade "at check in"...but on this flt there was a long upgrade list with multiple EXPs. If this is true it would seem upgrades are being sold before accommodating elites.

My observations are consistent with their story...J2 and 2 empty seats for a while before departure, then within 30 mins of departure the 2 seats disappeared (but EF still showed J2, as often happens). Also, the GA told me at about T-35 that she'd be able to accommodate 2 upgrades...but later announced that FC was full (and looked somewhat puzzled).

If anyone has the resources to look into this, it's AA357 SAT-DFW on 7 May. Check out what happened to seats 3C and 4F.

Maybe they just paid the fare difference?

Certainly possible...their answers were inconclusive, so I'm curious. Also with J2 but D1 and I1, that would have been pretty expensive for at least one of the upgrades. Also, are you allowed to "buy up" that close to flt time? I thought ticket sales ended at T-30 or thereabouts.

Flying RDU-MIA-PAP later this week. Recieved upgrades outbound T-96+ and then subsequently for inbound T-96+. Plus got email notifications on both sets.

I'm flying SYR-DCA-BOS on Friday of this week. Noticed Sunday evening that my first leg was upgraded. Thought the 2nd leg would follow suit yesterday but it didn't. Even today the upgrade hasn't cleared (yet). They really holding on to F for this leg.

Could also *potentially* be companions of EXP buying stickers to upgrade with companion priority at check-in.

An update:

In addition to the previously mentioned fix which opened the floodgates to in-advance upgrade processing that had been blocked by some kid of technical problem, effective May 1st AA implemented a new process to further aid in this endeavor-- in this case processing more upgrades day of departure but -before- at-the-gate processing.

Had upgrade clear on International flight at T-30 hours. J was only 1/2 full 20 out of about 40 seats on a 772. EF was J7Y1.

Called and they said yes upgraded, and since my SWUs are used up, paid 25K miles and $350. Originally the agent said $550, but I told here this was just Business. 772 has not F class. She had to call back to the ticket desk and have them fix the copay. How can this be? AA only has F on77W and 32T. I was only one upgraded today. EF showed C=6 (and I wasn't included in that number).

My thought though was maybe I should have declined the upgrade with 20 empty J seats and Y at Y1, meaning they had oversold coach and would likely be doing op upgrades and they do that based on status.

Apologies if you've posted elsewhere but have you heard anything about when AA will switch priority to 1 year EQD spend?
