I got Lax Bos at t-45 with the flight down to 3 open seats in up front and a timely email to boot!
|
Last two domestic flight data points from me:
EWR-DFW cleared at the T-4 sweep. DFW-EWR cleared at T-100 Making me 6 for 6 for the year with nothing going to the gate. I'll take it. ^ |
Cleared DCA-SYR at T-48.
|
Cleared at T-100 (Well, T-99 Hours, 50 minutes) for PHL-DTW this Sunday.
|
Cleared at T-107 for Monday night. The FC cabin was wide open and still 12/16 seats open. Redeye flight.

As a few others along with me have reported, it appears comp upgrades clear before SWU upgrades.
All things considered - this is probably a good thing for higher tier elites as we will clear via comp upgrade before those waitlisted with miles+copay (including individuals with no elite status). |

when you say comp, does that mean stickers before copay/miles?
Some of us reported that we cleared 2-3 days before departure while our SWU requests were still pending, which led me to this probable conclusion. |

Yes, at least between T-120 and T-4 assuming zero C space. The main advantage of miles/copy is that they can confirm anytime between time of booking and T-4 if C space is available, however once we get inside T-120 (CK's upgrade window) it appears AA processes those off of R space waitlist first before those on C space waitlist.

That seems backwards no? Also the opposite of how it used to be.

I've been seeing you post about this and I have to say, personally, I'm not entirely sure the science behind this conclusion is solid.
1. I got Complimentary upgrade confirmation email (the one that talks about e-500 along with disclaimer no 500 miler upgrades will be deducted if you are CK, EXP, etc). I have never gotten an email when a SWU clears FWIW. 2. I was in F via upgrade and my name was still on the upgrade list. 3. Agent at PIT AC confirmed me she sees my SWU request still waitlisted - despite me already being in F. 4. My booking code was R on my BP, not C. 5. My now expired SWU was never deducted. I don't think the intention was to prioritize R, just that the automated process seems to run R first when we are within a few days of departure. Maybe this is because of the recent fix last January the system is pushing R upgrades through? I have no clue, but definitely something we should keep an eye out for other reports... |
Just dropped to Platinum two days ago and booked some flights yesterday (aa.com said Platinum at the time). Upgraded my next two segments at 96 and 102 hours. By current rules that shouldn't be possible more than 48 hours out. Maybe a database entry or two trailing on the downgrade. These were short < 500 mile segments so complimentary.

Technically speaking, yes, because in the past A space was almost always available as long as they are still selling F seats.
I am not 100% confident in my theory too. At least 2 others reported similar situations. What led me to think this... 1. But doesn't this seem like a degredation of the SWU benefit? It means that there is no benefit to waitlisting a SWU under 100 hours. |
Cleared T-48 for JFK-SFO
My flight for AA15 from JFK to SFO on 5 Mar cleared at the T-48 window. There are still a few seats showing open. Probably helps it is a Sunday morning.

Doesn't have any affect on the international long hauls where the real value of the SWU is....
