Is it? If one plans to travel on AA as much as this year (not enough to qualify for GLD) then buying the "perks" a la carte can very possibly be cheaper.
GLDs only get MCE at check-in time and save $25per bag.
$399 can buy me 16 checked bags or 5MCE seats on transcons
IS it really a deal if you don't plan to fly enough to be GLD? I don't think so.

6600 points short of EXP
I am 6600 points short of EXP and I dont want to use the boosts, can anyone give me advice on how to I can get 6600 points without taking another flight this year? I have an Amex AA, will my cc points count toward that? This is the first time I am experiencing this so any advise is appreciated

All applicable fees are collected in US dollars and are non-refundable. You must pay the renewal fee, in addition to any applicable taxes and credit card processing fees, in full by July 31, 2015. Elite status offers obtained through this program will not be authorized retroactively if payment is not completed before the Member's current status expires.
At first glance, it seems that for the renewal fee the deadline is July 31, 2015 of next year. But the final sentence seems to indicate that it would be Feb. 29, 2015, since if you haven't otherwise qualified you'll lose your status as of that date.
I guess I'm missing something, but any clarification on this point would be welcome.

Depending on travel patterns I could see it being worth it if you're flying in the ~20K or ~25 segment range and certainly if you are anticipating flying a lot more next year.
Now $1199 for Plat over Gold seems absolutely ridiculous.

On the other hand, if they had decent data scientists with a bit of spare time, they could build a pretty good predictive model and optimize it accordingly.

Yes, unfortunately I agree. That's an awful lot to pay for MCE outside of T-24, double miles on less than 50k miles flown, and the privilege of maybe being able to pay for an upgrade before other people can (or a better chance at an upgrade on a <500 mile hop). Almost no international non-premium travel here so the lounge access does not come into play. Looks like I will be dropping down to gold next year. Probably going to get pretty crowded with all the US folks coming over, but my legacy US Silver friends score a surprising number of upgrades out of DCA on their metal so I'll remain optimistic and probably be flying a lot more US...
