Seems like they've finally pulled the plug until the official announcement.

If you're EXP through Feb 2015, then you will get an offer to buy up to Gold or Plat through Feb 2016, even if you didn't fly enough to qualify for any status this year.

Got the offer. Just came in e-mail. I'm currently 2k miles short of PLT (Which will happen after my LHR-DFW on Monday). Offer is $699 to buy back PLT. Definitely passing on this. ;-)

Those who got the price of $5 or $10 are being contacted with an apology and some miles.

Link is up now, I'd assume, for good:

Extend your EXP benefits for only $2,499!

Just received an email from AA stating that for only $2,499, I can extend my EXP benefits into 2015. So much for re-qualifying the old fashioned way. Wonder if it would be the same cost if I hadn't flown at all in 2014?

Just got an offer from AAdvantage to 'secure your status' (currently Plat) for $1199 for Plat and $649 for Gold. I'm a bit short of Gold BIS currently. The blurb reads 'Too good to give up'.

Opinion varies.

$1,799 for me. I'm 10k short of EXP and have the flights booked. Poor planning.
