AA discount codes are only valid for AA flights on AA metal. Since there are no AA flights to Australia, no codes will be valid.

Thanks for the info. I thought AA has a tie up with Qantas and a discount code may be applicable, since I can buy tickets to Australia from aa website.

Qantas and AA are partners in the OneWorld alliance, but if you look at the terms and conditions on most AA codes, they require flying on AA metal. Unfortunately, it makes it unusable if you want to take a long international trip where you connect on one of the other carriers like JAL, etc...

If you're a new AA flyer be wary of mileage accumulation when booking to Australia. AA flight numbers will get 100% miles on discounted coach while Qantas flight numbers only bring in 50%.
