Baggage aLLOWANCE
I am flying South African Air from Washington, my first flight is AA Miami to Washington, I am told I can have two 50lb bags free, but the AA Site says I get one bag.
Can anyone help me? Will I be charged for second bag by AA even though my ticket is onward on SAA?

Why does AA often block out bulkhead seats of DEF on the MD80, now row 7?

My SO and I are going to vegas for new years.
Currently have tickets for a return trip on Jan 4 (LAS -> DFW). However due to a change in work schedule and having more IHG hotel points than I thought, we are now wanting to return on Jan 5.
Outright change will costs us $295/person (fee change plus flight difference), and just straight up buying new one-way tickets for the return trip is basically the same at $301/person. But I'd really rather not shell out an extra $600 period.
I've been sitting on this and waiting for any AA initiated change, hoping that it would grant me the option to change to the next day without the fee.
Today a change was issued... but only by 10 minutes. I tried, and a 10 minute change isn't enough to be bumped to the next day without a fee. (btw I'm a mere Gold and called the Gold customer service line.)
So a couple of questions:
1. What are the chances that there will be a second AA initiated flight schedule change? And that change be great enough to have leverage bumping me to the next day's flight without the fee change?
2. I'll be PLT mid December... any chance I'll have better luck with the PLT customer service line? (though I'd rather not wait that long: greater chance that 2 MCE seats together in the AB column will be gone). Or conversely, any other line that is best to call for more lenient customer service reps?
3. Any other solutions/suggestions?

Another redemption question (I'm an AA newbie) - is the 'only 25% above MPM' for award tickets a hard rule, or can you exceed it by a little? Is it usually the discretion of the agent you're talking to? Thanks!

What routing and what carrier(s)?

SIN-TLV. Want to do it SIN(CX)-HKG(RJ)-BKK(RJ)-AMM(RJ)-TLV. Also considering QR and EY, but not sure if they have SIN-TLV fares (hence not eligible for redemption).

Is BKK a connection, or just an intermediate stop on a direct RJ flight from HKG to AMM? If the latter, then you ignore BKK, and just calculate the mileage as SIN-HKG-AMM-TLV.
What is RJ's MPM SIN-TLV?

SIN-HKG-AMM-TLV would be 6432 miles - a 200+ miles excess. Would they let this pass, or the system won't allow it to book?
Also, anyone with Expertflyer access can help see if QR, MH, or EY has a SIN-TLV fare? Can fly these airlines to DBX/DOH/AUH, then connect to RJ.
Thanks!

"I'm assuming that the SIN-TLV MPM would be the direct distance"
That's a bad assumption, especially when the carrier that publishes the through-fare does not offer direct service between origin and destination. The MPM will typically be greater than the point-to-point distance, and MPM + 25% will be that much greater.

The proposed routing would require MPM+10%:
[KVS Availability Tool 7.3.1 - Reference: Maximum Permitted Mileage [MPM]: SIN-HKG-AMM-TLV]
Code:
CTY DC TPM CUM MPM DC SUR HGL LWL 25M XTRA SIN 3 HKG 3 EH 1594 1594 1912 EH 0M 318 0 2390 0 AMM 2 EH 4781 6375 5859 EH 10M 69 224 7323 0 TLV 2 EH 73 6448 5947 EH 10M 93 204 7433 0

guv1976 and KVS - Thanks, very helpful! Starting to learn a few things...
Just to clarify (pardon me, the rules are spinning in my head, despite going over the award booking thread), Aadvantage award allows MPM+25%? So my proposed SIN-HKG-AMM-TLV routing of MPM+10% is still within the allowed limit?

MPM+25% is allowed when the "over-water" carrier's published through-fare is mileage based. But some through-fares are route specific and have no MPM.

OK here's my Newbie question:
If I purchase a fully refundable ticket, go to the airport, check-in and go to the gate, then get a call from the boss that he wants me to cancel the trip, can I still get my ticket refunded at that point?

If it is fully refundable, then yes. I believe you can get the ticket refunded even if you no show and the plane leaves without you, but I'm not sure on that point.

If I book EWR-ORD-NRT with AA, can I change to JFK-NRT without change fee?
What about if I booked LGA-ORD-NRT, can I change to JFK-NRT without change fee then?
(FWIW, CSR told me fee in both cases.)
