You never see a "debit back" receipt in this kind of situation because Avis doesn't charge you card instantly at the time they print the receipt from the handheld terminal. They allow time for you to go back to the counter and make corrections.

I've done this kind of adjustment at the counter oodles of times, and never had my credit card shown one charge and a debit, only the final charge that was after the correction at the counter.

And, yes, as mentioned already, this is not a location-specific policy. It's an Avis-wide policy (at least in the US), on rentals of less than (once 50, now) 75 miles driven.

Sometimes they forget. It's not so much a station-to-station difference, as a rental-to-rental difference, in my experience.

I just did 5 rentals at LAX in August (all 1-day weekend rentals). On 3 of the rentals, they asked me. On one of them, they forgot to ask and I forgot to volunteer, and I had to go back to the counter to fix it. On the remaining one, they didn't ask, but I volunteered on the spot, flashing my receipt, and I saw them punching a button into the handheld unit, reprinting the receipt, handing me the reprint, and tearing up the previous receipt (which I could tell was for a higher amount by about $14).

I don't see a separate thread on the Budget 1,000/3,000 promotion. So just thought I'd mention here that I found it interesting that I was assessed a tax on my 3,150 FF miles that was not reflected on the website quote (despite my having entered the promo code and my AA number with the reservation). Ended up being about $4 extra.

One thing that interested me was this. On the Avis pre-pay, for two one day rentals I pre-paid $25.58. On the hand-held printout it stated total charges of $23.20.

Where's the $2.38 difference go? I've certainly not received on the payment cards.

I would like to see somebody who has received the bonus miles even when the receipt does not say so. My experience from renting with Avis for over 10 yrs is that if the Receipt does not show the Bonus miles then you are SOL unless you are ready for hours on the phone and email (and you may still not get those miles). Luckily my receipt this time shows the 5150 miles/points and so I am not concerned.

I escalated, and this was their final answer. They simply cannot retrieve the miles or points from a partner, they said.

BTW, I sincerely hope that I haven't screwed up with A515100, both for myself and for anyone to whom I might have given a bum steer. I can only hope that nothing has shown up in over a month because we've jammed the system.

I did. Twice, from two locations. The latest of the two was on Aug 4.

Bummer, it hasn't worked out for you. Maybe you rented from a nonparticipating airport?

None of my receipts have shown the bonus miles.

Today, my rentals from 8/16 and 8/17 posted, 3050 miles for each.

I'm expecting the rest of my rentals to post next week or two...

My rentals and RDM deposits are similarly illogical. Looks like some of mine post while others don't...or at least not yet. And I am renting from the same location at all times.
