Bid For Upgrade will only work with tickets issued by Alitalia (at least Alitalia ticket stock). You can enter your bid which is limited by a lower and upper price border set by AZ.

I'll fly SOF-FCO in a couple weeks, and decided to try the upgrade bidding process. Lowest acceptable offer is €45, and highest is €175. I initially bid €95, which is the lowest one within the 'Good' range, but after reading that someone here on a comparable flight got their offer for €45 accepted, I decided to change it. Hopefully it works, and I'll report back.
But, that led me to think if perhaps there could be a wiki so that we can use previous experiences to help our bidding. I know there are some similar wikis for other airlines. Thoughts?

You could at least post, how much you paid for the upgrade...

I was offered the same range as the poster who did SOF-FCO for my segment. Did not bid (quick flight) and did not get an opup, alas
290 eur minimum bid for PE (P) to J on a JFK-FCO
The booking in Z sounds annoying, especially if crediting to DL...
