I want to put in a vote for the Glacier Brewhouse. I do not drink beer at all, so I cannot comment on that aspect, but it is very cozy there. Beware if you sit near the fireplace...it can get quite warm.
The best thing there is a dish with peppered tuna. (I cannot get the menu to come up on their web site, so I can't give the exact name of the dish.) It is about $16 (?) and it is soooo yummy. I can't wait to go there again on the 9th of August. YUM!

Just found a gift card for that place I need to use

Getting in this Friday evening...where should we eat dinner?
Hi all,
We fly in - one from Juneau and myself from KY - getting in around the same time Friday night just before 10 no checked bags - any ideas on dinner? We're at the Marriott downtown. And, I'm on my own for breakfast/brunch the next morning - thoughts?
Thanks!
Dee

For breakfast though I would strongly suggest the Snow City Cafe. It is walking distance from the Marriott. Expect a wait unless you sit on the stools at the counter. But the wait is well worth it.

Another place that has good breakfast/brunch options is Cafe Croissant in Midtown (Benson and Spenard, just behind the DMV office).
Dinner options do thin out a little bit after 10pm, but some of Anchorage's better restaurants are open surprisingly late. I'd recommend the following:
Bear Tooth Grill: open until 11:30pm (menu)
Orso: open until 11pm (menu)
Glacier Brewhouse: open until 11pm (menu)
Moose's Tooth: open until 12am (menu--see links on left navigation bar; blackened halibut pizza highly recommended)
All are excellent choices representing some of the best Anchorage has to offer. I'd look at the menus and see which one suits your mood. Reservations should not be necessary at any of them, especially at that hour (the Teeth do not do reservations anyway).
If you did not already plan to do so, you really should rent a car while in Anchorage. Off-season rentals, especially on weekends, are SUPER cheap--cheaper than taking a cab down to the Marriott (which does not have an airport shuttle). You'll also need a car to get to the Teeth or Cafe Croissant. I'll tout AutoSlash here (click the link in my signature), but you can also check Travelocity or Kayak. You'll be surprised at the deals you see.

I second jackal's advise. I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago, staying at the Marriott with my daughter in mid December. We ended up meeting a few FTers at Suite 100, corner of Old Seward and Dimond. The price of the taxi ride down and back would have more than paid for a rental car for at least a day or two.
