The Consolidated ANC Meet-Up Thread

***Records Moved to Wikipost Above***

Since so many people visited ANC due to the cheap East Coast-ANC fare on UA and expressed interest in gathering for drinks or even just airport atrium-dos, and I couldn't keep track of them in my head (and would have otherwise forgotten about one or two, leaving those people sitting at the airport waiting for me), I created a list of those coming so I could keep everything straight. And I figured I'd publish it here so people can post changes or corrections (or additions!).

Thus was born the Consolidated ANC Meet-Up Thread. You'll find we're a friendly bunch who love to find any excuse to get together, and the steady stream of people visiting Alaska on mileage runs or--gasp--even real vacations provides ample opportunity to converse over a drink or Moose's Tooth gourmet pizza.

(Please join us so I can list you in my List of FlyerTalk Members You Have Already Met In Person!)

Please note that I, jackal, have since moved out of ANC (although I do return frequently). I still monitor this thread, but if you need to contact a local, please consult the wikipost above or send a message to FlyerTalk Ambassador and local ANC resident beckoa.

Thanks for posting this ANC meet up thread!

If this Do is for Saturday June 7, I'd like to be added to this one, there will also be two other FT'ers on the same run as I, I can only assume they too will be up for a drink.

I Arrive: ANC 21:30 Depart: ANC 23:40 so I think I could squeak in a drink or two

Duly added! Please spread the word about this thread to others coming to ANC. I also need to send PMs to the people listed here to tell them to check this thread and make any necessary corrections, too--will try to do that this evening.

jackal, BOB W, rwk32882, and kkjay77 enjoyed a drink at the Upper One bar tonight. Thanks to those who showed up! This DO celebrated the first time rwk32882 and kjay77 have ever spent 100% of the money they've spent on the ground on a trip on alcohol! (Alaskan Amber, nonetheless!) Bob and I are happy to be known as the enablers of said feat...

See you guys around--keep an eye out for my FT luggage tags!

Hi jackal, and thanks for all the coordinating!

I'm in for the 5/24 "Post Mileage Run Do #2 Lobby DO"

And I'll be back on 6/14-15, scheduled to arrive at 11:51 pm, leaving next morning at 7:30 am. My hope is to standby for the earlier flight out of SFO so that I'll have a real evening in ANC, but we'll see.

Anyone else on #123 on the 14th?

Hey, just noticed this! Thanks for putting it together Jackal!

Since it looks like a number of us are on the June 9 outbound, maybe we should meet up at a bar or lounge pre-departure on the 9th? We're on the 2PM flight to SFO.

I'm personally +2, my wife and 3 y/o son are joining me and we're making a mini-vacation out of it. We don't have any serious plans yet, so we would also be up for dinner one of those nights...

OK, well, I'm packing (last minute, natch) for my flight to DEN right now and have to head off to work soon (leaving straight from work), so I'll have to coordinate everything later. Feel free to make any executive decisions without me--I'm extremely flexible and will just post whatever you guys want to do.

As far as airport meets, keep in mind UA flies into the A concourse, which has its own security gate and nothing of note behind security. Outside of security (and just down the hall from the A security) is the Upper One bar, which is where Bob, rwk32882, kjay77 and I met. Then, a three-minute walk away is the B/C concourse security gates, behind which is the AS Board Room, which Bob can get to (and maybe me, if I spring for a BR membership in the near future), and also Chili's--however, no one's tested out whether the wonderful, happy folks at TSA will let UA ticket-holders past B/C security, as there are no longer any UA gates there.

jackal, what a good idea to consolidate the list.

As for the following:
Unconfirmed Mileage Run Do #2.5 Dinner
Date and time: Sunday, May 25, TBD
Location: TBD
Visitors: SeeYa, FlyinHawaiian (unconfirmed)
Hosts: TBD (jackal will be out of town)

FlyinHawaiian and I are driving back from Seward that evening, so did consider stopping for dinner along the way(as per your suggestion).
If no one else is available, we may very well do that instead of rushing back to the airport.

Ah--didn't know you were driving back from Seward that day--I was operating on what GoingAway had said about you two potentially doing something Sunday because you would still be here (and it would be less rushed than the Saturday night gig we're doing). But if you're coming back from Seward, it would probably be better to go ahead and stop for dinner on the way than to rush back for what would in effect be a duplication of Saturday night.

...unless you wanted to combine the two: do dinner at the Double Musky in Girdwood (spectacular Cajun-influenced food) or one of the other good restaurants down there and turn it into a DO! I'm sure an ANC FTer or two (or even some of the Girdwood-based FTers we have!) would be thrilled to join you there. I sure would if I weren't going to be 2,500 miles away!

Post back with your ideas/plans and I'll update the thread as needed.

Thanks for the help.

SeeYa and I will probably be leaving Seward around 6 p.m., I think. What time does it get dark this time of the year; after 9?

Another for putting this together

If my plans hold, I get in late on June 5th, and wil drive down to Seward on June 6th after breakfast (unless you tell me there's a better eatery on the road )

I'll be back in ANC late Sun night June 8 (probably staying at the Marriott Downtown) and will be taking in sights close to town and flying out late on Mon June 9th (11:30 or 50ish??? PM).

So I'm definitely up for a June 9th dinner or whatever

looking forward to seeing AK and fellow FTers

p.s. For all you on MEM Weekend ANC runs, don't forget to join us at the May 25 SFO mini DEQM Do

It gets dark around 10:30. You should be back long before that. The Double Musky in Girdwood is great. I highly recommend it also.

When are your flights out?
